Track day video at Laguna Seca

Just thought I'd share a few videos from yesterday's track day. Keep in mind this is only my 3rd event and 2nd time at this track.

These 2 clips were from my mounted iPhone 4S:

Same run as the first video, only from the GoPro2 down by my left front wheel:

Chasing my friend's S2000 (Go Pro 2):

Nice! Looks like you missed the rain, huh? Wish I could've joined this even, but even the wait list was PACKED!

The track was damp and cold in the morning. Was surprised at how many cars spun out during our first run session.

Nice. Very suprised as to how good the iphone video is. How was the iphone mounted?

I absolutely love Laguna Seca. It's a bit of drive for me, but I've tracked there twice and both times it was worth the drive. I've enver tracked it in my M3 though. I last drove it this past June with my S2K and spun out at the corckscrew and tapped the wall. Only cosmetic damages to the front bumper cover and fender thankfully. But what a track. It's very hard on brakes.

That track is such a blast. A super fast straighaway with a blind kink/hump in the middle, difficult slow speed turns, high speed turns, lots of elevation change, and lots of hard braking. Super fun!

This was with NCRC. The track was damp and cold in the morning. During our first session there were at least 6 cars that spun out. It only got better through the day.

Yea the iPhone video isn't quite as smooth with the fast movement, but the color balance and exposure seems better overall. I bought a Ram mount (http://www.ram-mount.com/) from amazon that was designed for the iPhone 4. It's inexpensive yet very well made. Highly recommended.

hey - how come such a hard time catching the s2k? I thought the M would gain on any straights with the power advantage?

I would catch up to him on the main long straight. I only did half throttle around the turn 5 area (the other long straight) because Laguna has a 92db limit and there's a sound booth there. Akrapovic Evo could get me black flagged. But aside from that, my friend in the S2000 is a much better driver than I am. He has a lot more track (and autox) experience than me.

It goes to show that driver experience is almost everything at the track. People can argue about the performance of various cars all day long, but the better driver will usually end up being faster.

Yea he did, but I knew it would be too close to pass there so I waited for another chance. Probably wasn't supposed to pass on the right anyways, but I remember there being certain scenarios where they require passing on the right (at least with BMWCCA).

Great videos! Did you use the high wind speed backing for the GoPro2? Seemed to be a bit noisier than my GoProHD at high speed. I've been tempted to get the GoPro2 as a 2nd camera.

Yea I did use the completely sealed shell. Wind noise is the only thing that really bugs me with the go pro. I have an external mic, but haven't spent time figuring out a good way to mount it yet.

Very jealous that you are on track in december, and that you are on that track at all.

As others have said, the iPhone has surprisingly good video, thanks for sharing.

so you weren't able to drive to your full potential due to the sound limit?

It's just at one corner. I probably could have just driven hard with a chance of not getting hit by the 92db limit, but I figured I'd rather get all my track time and take it easier on one corner than get black flagged and lose a lap or 2.

I've seen guys put a cotton ball over the mic to help.
