Sorry for your misfortune, but I have to ask.

Why are you going to the dealer on a car that is out of warranty?

The Indy I took it to couldn't find the source of the leak. That plus I don't know of a really good experienced BMW specialist shop around. Used to go to International Imports but they closed shop. Without a better alternative I thought dealer would be better solution. If you know a good place please refer me since we seem to be both in DC area.

They think it could be pump; Alpina_B3_Lux it appears I have a similar issue to yours maybe? The theory is that it slow leaks until a big enough puddle collects, hit bump or tilt and somehow it gets splashed on belt or fan explaining all the wetness and green residual all over, because nothing leaking from up side of engine. They will keep it under pressure and recheck tomorrow see if they can pinpoint the source.

If this takes more time than this to locate, I am really starting to tilt towards selling this POS BMTroubleYou. I love the car when it works, but this now comes barely 700 miles after my last major failure where my LPFP and fuel regulator went out on me. Having been in the dealer so many times I couldn't think what else would fail, but it keeps learning new tricks so to speak. Every time I turn around there is something else wrong. Its a garage queen mostly as you can tell at merely 32K for an 07 and out of warranty, I am starting to worry it might turn out to be a money pit than never runs trouble free long enough to make it worth owning.
Could be the same issue - I did notice a puddle under the car when it sat in my garage after some driving, but did not have the symptom of the coolant splashing everywhere. After having seen the defective water pump, the fissure was quite small but under heat and pressure of course it is another matter.

I also had my share of problems with the car this year - leaking steering pump, then defective tensioning roller, and now the defective water pump. And all this after only 70k kilometers and 3 years - does not really speak for quality. And I don't even mention the faulty HPFP and injectors that were replaced...

Should drive it over to Clem's place where Scott has his work done.

I know Clem from way back when. He hooked me up when I got this car. Actually Clem and Sniz installed my FMIC and that garage is awesome, but car wasn't going to get that far I don't think. It was already running very hot and dealer is barely 10 miles away. Worst part is after the fluid leaks I have to shut off let it cool down. That alone takes an eternity. Factor in I didn't want to take time off of work etc, it was the only good alternative, as much as I hate going to dealer out of warranty. I'd rather pay a friend to do the work. I thought about calling tow truck to flat bed it, but then decided to chance it. I got there but the temperatures were north of 260F I just kept driving as long as it didn't limp. Got there and ofcourse there was a puddle by the time I got there. So they say there is a puddle and anti freeze all over the lower part of the engine, but we cant be 100% sure where the leak is.

The problem with the pressure test is it doesn't quite replicate the driving conditions and factors leading to the leak. It is random, and happens only while driving. When it sprays I can hear it with the radio off. But as soon as I stop pop the hood to look, it is not leaking anymore. Its almost a cat and mouse game with it.

Final Update: Problem Resolution

Ok, like many of you know; This is a major issue with these cars but it seems low mileage (I have 32K miles) doesn't mean it won't fail, just like HPFP, we got some crappy water pumps. Seems to me if the part has word pump on it, expect it to pre-maturely fail; Great BMW, keep making these cars like this and you are going to loose customers. I love BMW less and less with every new car I get, and sooner or later I will be weaned off the crack.

They have to replace the pump. I suggested replace the thermostat while they have things off just save on more labor later if the thermostat should go out. They will replace the hoses that are leaking at the clamps too so I am getting hosed (pun intended) for about $1850 parts and labor. I was informed BMW will give lifetime warranty on replaced water pumps so this is last time I pay for this one. Its apparently same part number but revised. They gave me a 328xi service loaner and its sloooooooow. Even compared to my RAV4 it's a pig. Just more refined (pig with lipstick) but still a pig.
