To my knowledge, there is NO other production sports car/sedan that has even attempted to create a feature like this. BMW, WTF are you doing? What is the point?

That said, the M5 is pretty far off in "soul" than the older M cars. It has synthetic engine sounds. It is huge, heavy and so refined it loses its edge. Any Porsche has more soul than the M5. |

there really isnt such a thing. either it leans heavily on luxury and creature comforts, or it is spartan and too aggressive for the general public. many try to do both with moderate success, bmw, porsche maybe.

but their is a pre recorded sound .... Quote:
I could record the "real NA V8" noise of my M3 an play it in a honda.... doesn't make it real or native to the car i'm in... The motor you hear in a new M5 is a synthesized engine noise…as in “not real”… as in fake! …super car too super lame in 3.9 sec… i was excited about the new M5... now i am forced to just save a ton of money by keeping my M3 guess i should thank BMW M div.

Top Gear also called it the best car out right now. GTR is nice, F10 M5 is sick too, different cars, so stop comparing,
Wont be available until August September the earliest. I can't wait for mine as well.

They also said there's no point to get the M5 and just get a 5 series turbo diesel because it is just as good.

I truly am VERY disappointed with the "enhanced" engine sound feature, but is anyone else thinking: "I think I could get over it?" lol
Performance wise, its very apparent that the M5 is a beast! I'm not saying its the best car out right now (I don't think anyone can really back that statement up very well to a large audience), but damn its up there... I just wish I could drive it myself [this thread is quite off topic now...but good luck on making your decision OP!]

This is the first I even heard of this active sound but I think you guys should not dismiss it till you hear it in person.
I'm sure if BMW decided to go this route there must be a reason. Just like anything new initially it may sound crazy but down the road it might be the norm. I heard the new Fisker hybrid cars have an external speaker so the owner can "chose" the sound of the engine. This was done as more of a safety feature so people would hear the car because in electric mode it's too dangerously quiet for bystanders. I would love to experience this new sound feature when the M5 arrives next month.

The F10M5 will be the best street car with 4 doors to date.
It will have luxury, comfort, performance together like no other car. If ur looking for a race car/track car = M5 is not it. If your looking for simply the most luxurious, comfy, technologically advanced, performance sedan = the F10M5 is it. |

Top Gear while entertaining is probably one of the most inaccurate shows ever. They said the 5 series turbo diesel is as good as an M5 after talking down the EPS used in the new 911 and praising the hydraulic steering of the new M5 (regular 5 retains electronic steering). Add to that the fact that half of the stuff Clarkson says is incredibly inaccurate while reviewing cars I choose to take Top Gear as nothing more than an automotive comedy show.
