M3 vs Camaro..
ZL1.
I have a new 2012 e92 M3 with all the options but the new ZL1 with 580HP and 556TQ.. not to mention the magnetic suspension. Thoughts? Best Regards, Jon |

The ZL1 will be a monster. It's Ring time is fantastic. However, it's downside is weight. That thing will eat tires and brakes on the track and feel huge IMO. Otherwise, it is quite the performance vehicle.

I have read a lot of reviews on the camaro ZL1 and all that I could say is that the camaro is a true performer when compared to our M3's. IMHO, with both cars being stock, the ZL1 will eat our m3's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Comparing Nurburgring numbers, the ZL1 is so much faster than the e92 m3. 7:41.27 VS 8:05.00. That really says a lot about the ZL1.
Oh I forgot to mention that the ZL1 will eat our M3's as well during snack time. LOL!

Seen one at the track already. Looked like a beast, but yes, was a BIG car. Looking forward to seeing these things out there with the 302's and mixing it up.

Yes it is a monster and I see that you are from Texas where these things are really popular.
I just dont see myself cross shopping both cars..... If your question is: Is Camaro redneck fast? Then the answer is yes.... If your question is: Is Camaro a better car than M3? Then the answer is no..... Just the thought of dealing with GM dealer for service gives me a headache.... Background: I have owned 5 4th gen F-Bodies and DONE with GM period. I don't care what the heck they make....

The new GT500, on the other hand, may deserve the redneck-fast putdown, judging from early reports. Bruce |

Stats speak for themselves. You either want a Camaro or you don't. I personally have ridden in a few (non-ZL1 cars) and while GM and Ford will always beat us in the torque race, the quality and everyday livability of the car will never beat what you get out of the M.

It's also way too heavy, in my opinion, which is clearly a proof point in regard to my reference about its chassis. Any car that can make its way around the 'Ring that quickly while weighing so much is clearly an indicator of how effective that chassis really is. You don't like the car, fine. I'm not a fan either. So what. It's really well sorted for performance work, and a damned serious ride. Bruce |

As the Boss says, it's all about the "Glory Days" for GM et al. Someday they will realize the future can respect the past but not need to imitate it. Having said that, I do like the look of the Mustang and Camaro but I may be in the minority.

I love the look of the new camaro. With that being said, my favorite classic car as a kid was a '69 camaro. My neighbor had one that was bright yellow and it was bitchin'.. I think its just a childhood thing with me.
Anyway, I know my M3 aint the fastest car out there and know it never will be. Even though I love the look of the Camaro, I still prefer the M3 any day for looks, comfort and drive ability. It reminds me of that saying about motorcycles; you get on a Honda, you get in a Harley. In the analogy Camaro = Honda, M3 = Harley. |

I must admit the performance of the ZL1 is impressive. I just couldn't live with the dash layout or size. Having said that if I was buying a car today, I don't think I could pass up the GT500 with recaro's. Interior is still subpar compared to Ford's other cars now but it's a monster performer and I do like the exterior.
Anyone here driven the 13' GT500 with 640hp? |

I don't understand how u can buy anything based on its speed and power alone. Someone is ALWAYS faster. Nothing new here. That said, I do like the camaro. Forget how many I see on the road, in any color/stripe combo, I'm always doing a double take. They all look slick (except maybe that crazy green color) . I would absolutly consider the ZL1 if I was looking to part with my M. Forget the weight, the M's are weighty too. Forget the GT500, i just dont like Ford. Basically, ya buy what ya like! My two cents. Is anybody in agreance with me???
