I guess new for new, the question is which is the faster car? new stock GT-R or new modded S/C M3? Everything here points to the M3 it seems. Many examples of modded hi-power S/C M3s destroying the stock GT-R, and that's really no surprise, but some people seem to think that's impossible - why? Just asking.

Depends on the package, but around 600hp and up supercharged M3 should win from a roll, anything less probably won't. With the narrower power band of the M3, being in the right gear and right part of the power band is key, so it will depend on the starting speed.

Off the line, the GTR has the huge advantage against pretty much any supercharged M3, and it would take a very high horsepower M3 in order to catch it in a 1/4 mile race. Or even a mile for that matter.

We all don't like to say that the GTR (stock) is faster than our ///M3 (stock)
I'm saying this because it's the truth... a fact ,we all love our ///M3's and we know it is fast...but not as fast as the GTR(see #6 on this thread)
BTW...not to forget that the GTR has 2 turbos, and AWD ! (stock), and the ///M3...0 turbos,and would love to see the Gintani case with the twin turbo build for our ///M3's !
And when this build will reliable (and i hope soon) than we have the same weapons , and than we can talk again...at least i hope so

GT-R is much faster in every single performance category. Not even close. I have raced them from a roll, dead stop, 1/4 mile and top speed. GTR always comes out on top, no surprise here.

But compare that to the current GT-R (chassis code R35) and you can see that the new GT-R is an altogether different — and less inspiring — beast.

Got it, and a couple points here that I'm clear on after reading all this craziness

1) No stock M3 today stands a chance against any new GT-R. Whoever thinks that is insane. Period. Don't even know how that thinking could even get started.

2) For $100k, I could get a nicely powered NEW S/C M3 and easily keep up - if not, beat a stock NEW $100k GT-R. We all agree from an all-arounder sports car (Daily, Family, etc.), M3 wins in that category. With that, the M3 can be the better all-around sports car for the money - even in terms of "speed" (i.e. $100k).

NOTE: Understanding naturally that the GT-R will beat it sometimes from a dig or even 1/4 mile dependant on S/C and conditions, but ultimately in real world roll-on drag or on highway - GT-R would have hard time.

I guess the only question is, and I think I know the answer, who would win on the track ?!?!? stock GT-R or modded S/C M3. My money is on the GT-R - I think

Haha .. Gintani twin turbo doesn't exist. The company doesn't exist anymore probably. The compression on the M3 is way too high for turbo application. Adding boost to a car that is not designed for boost is asking for trouble.

If the M3 had boost and AWD and great torque vectoring differentials it might catch up with a GT-R... but then that car wouldn't be an M3 anymore.

...whore? Here is a case in point (off topic, but kinda fitting here):



Back on topic...gotta make it about TOTAL $$$ invested vs. TOTAL resulting package. For me, M3 + vt2-625 + BBK > Stock GTR pretty much all the time for performance in real world conditions. Total investment in the M3 is less, comfort is better, style (subjective) is much better, etc. Anyone can drive in a straight line...that is just a traction war. From personal experience, both the M3 and the GTR are good at the track (duh), but it takes a GREAT driver to take full advantage of either the M3 or the GTR. From a real world perspective, a well modified M3 will have no issues keeping up with (or beating) a Stock (or lightly modified) GTR with competent (not professional) drivers in nearly any scenario. Give the cars to the pros and you may start seeing the differences (i.e. RWD vs AWD).

The key point of my mini-rant: when you start comparing cars on how many mods you do, you loose the validity of comparison IMHO. Its about $$$ spent vs. end result.

Yup, 625 hp > 545 hp. In a rolling race, you should win, assuming you start in your power band.

For the record, chip and midpipe on any year GTR (less than $1500 in upgrades) will be good for around 600 hp, and that would most likely be enough to reverse that outcome due to higher torque and wider power band on the GTR.
