Best street/track 275/305 tire?

Currently running 18x10/10.5 on 265/35f - 295/30r A048's. Love them but don't think Yoko ADVAN offers anything wider..

I'm looking to go:

275/35f and 305/30r..

Any recommendations from previous experiences? Preferably looking for something like I have now with a little more track than street focus..

Thanks!

275/35f and 305/30r.. not the best set up for track.

you can go

275 all around or

265 and 285 i prefer this though.

and if your going 18 inch wheels. make sure you use 265/35/18 and 285/35/18

im running the same set up as you but for track i would not run 305 not saying you cant but not recommended.

for street use i have the same set up.. i like the agressive look in the rear thats why im running 305. otherwise my set up will be track and street use are

265-35-18
285-35-18

I have gone through this dilemma in the past and have ended up with 275/35/18 and 285/35/18 tires based on cost / availability / performance.

I always run 275's in the front and think that is the best as long as you have 9.5" or 10" wide front wheels. The best tire size options for the rear are 285/35/18, 295/35/18, possibly 305/35/18 or 315/30/18. Some people have ran the 315/30/18's in the rear but they typically require widening of the fender. Plus you end up with a pretty big stagger compared to the 275's in the front. I have also seen some people run 295/30/18 (AD08's or MPSC) in the rear but that is a full inch smaller than OEM. 295/30/19 is a great size for 19" wheels (very close to OEM 265/35/19 diameter) so I don't see the point in going with 18's and turning around and installing a 19" tire size.... you might as well run 19's. All that being said, I have seen some guys throwing down solid lap times with 265/35/18 and 295/30/18 tires.

I think the "extreme performance summer" tire category is the most track-oriented tire that I see as practical to run on the street. Here are your options in that category:

Hankook RS3 (Available in 275 and 285/35 but not anything wider)

Yokohama AD08 (Available in 265/35 and 295/30/18 but as i explained above, I don't like those sizes)

BF Goodrich G-Force Rival (Available in 275/35, 295/35, and 315/30/18. This is promising option but I have not yet tried them)

Nitto NT05 (Available in 275/35 and 295/35/18 but Tire Rack doesn't sell them so I haven't tried this option)

Falcon RT615K (Available in 275/35 and 315/30/18 but the rear fitment is tough and tire rack doesn't sell them so I haven't tried this option)

Good Luck; I hope this helps.

Thanks for the insight fellas!

Sean05

I agree that smaller width tires would probably be best but for a track dedicated set.. I'm looking for the best balance so I don't have to have 2 different sets..

Slicer

I think you nailed it, I don't like the fact that the 305/30 is a full inch smaller than oem..

After looking at more options and I have decided on NT01's in 275/35 and 305/35

Thanks again guys!

How do you think the 305 in the rears would do with straight line performance, I know tracking thats a no-no but straight line I would think it would hook up pretty well...

265/35/18
295/30/18 (because of going wider you lower the wall to better match OEM diameter)

A good deal of the BMW motor sports teams (private) near the Nurburgring run this. I went with 18x9.5 and 10.5 with 265/35/18 and 285/35/18 because thats what was on the wheels I bought. I would have went with the above specs if I could. I have a buddy that runs that setup with amazing traction and great lap times BTG.

Actually a 295/35/18 would be close the OEM diameter. 295/30/18 is a full inch smaller diameter. As I stated above, a 295/30/19 is a better match to the OEM diameter.

OEM size: 265/40/18 = 26.3"
295/35/18 = 26.1"
285/35/18 = 25.9"
295/30/18 = 25.0"

I'm not saying people don't use the 295/30/18 tires with success but it isn't a close match to the OEM diameter. I think the use of that size is more driven by tire choice. I bet the BMW Motorsports guys us Michelin Pilot Sport Cup which are available in the sizes you listed.

That's good to know and thanks for the info. Maybe I had it mixed up with them using a smaller circumference for more clearance or something of that matter. Not sure but I know they are seriously bad ass at the Ring and I would go with their opinions and tested set ups.

Fair enough. Like I said, I think it's the tire models dictating the use of that size. If you know people doing well on the ring with those sizes then that's certainly a good reason to try them! I wonder if they would do better if MPSC tires were available in 275/35/18 and 295/35/18, which are closer to OEM diameter and less stagger for more neutral handling...
