Start button

I don't even know why they decided to put that little cheap circle coating around the start button, the 08 models had it right! it was peeling all around the edges which bothered me. So I peeled it all off, but under that is just white plastic which actually annoys a lot more. It's connected to the carbon trim so I can't exactly replace it. Anyone else on the same boat or am I just being too OCD about it?

it's a wear and tear item... jus remove the trim and replace that part if it bothers a lot.

talk about interior trim/switch peeling...if you ever experienced VAG, BMW does a good job, trust me...

You sure it is connected to the plastic trim? To be clear, the start button itself and the ring that goes around it are one single part and can easily be replaced.

Get some plastic trim tools and pop up the trim piece starting on the left and working right just enough to gain access to the part. Simple tabs in back so you can push it out, just unclip the electrical connector. Pop in the new one. Takes 5 minutes.

Agree completely

It's not connected to the carbon trim, you can pull the trim out and pop it out. I replaced mine - worth it

Replace it with the ones from the newer models with the silver surround. It's silver plastic, vs painted black, so shd last longer.

It takes 5 minutes to replace. Just pop up the dash trim panel to gain access to the back of the button to remove it. Part number is 61319154945. I also have a couple of used ones for half new cost.
