The Ridge motorsports complex

I am heading to the ridge for my first attempt there. 2.5 mile road course just opened last year i believe. its a 124 mile drive each way which is double what im used to. Few others going with me. should be sweet. video to follow, and possibly more impressions of my wonderful car and nt01s in different setting.

here is my opening session. in the process of downloading so will be up later. fairly slow playing follow the leader with lonnie in the c6 vette. brakes were making a racket until i used them harder later on in the day. great track tons of grip and this isnt the final surface. will be done all at once in a seamless process. hard to tell from video but great elevation change and some corners that really challenged me all day. Decreasing radius sweepers requiring a lot of trailbraking, off camber downhill esses a la the corkscrew, and a long front straight that allows a lot of speed to be put on and carried thru 1. it was a humbling experience for a first day as i felt out of sorts. I was worried i wouldnt remember what to do. that wasnt an issue after a few laps it was helping my car do the new things that was tricky and exciting. wife did great in the passenger seat for the first time. didnt grab the wheel or scream she wanted out. she was nervous about it at the start thinking i was gonna end up in a firey crash. once she realized its more controlled she relaxed and wasnt worried.

Like the looks of that twisty bit just before the long front straight (~150 mph??). And how turn one at the conclusion of the front straight seems to be more of a kink -- nice departure from the norm. In my experience seems like a sharp turn follows most straights.

Bummer on the tire. That's a long way to go for component failure.

Yeah that downhill corkscrew section is very steep. Its seen from the pits and is pretty sweet. I too like the layout at the end of the front straight. I was seeing gps 135 and more is there possibly 150. That kink for turn 1 is taken at 100 plus making turn 2 a little scary coming in that hot. Didn't notice the tire issue until pulling them last run of the day so didn't cause an issue. I have spec-r springs coming from swift. Hoping that allows me to set into the turn more easily and handle turn 1 at higher speed.

Hey, great to meet you Sunday. Glad you are enjoying learning this new track!
Funny, i don't remember it being so cloudy in the afternoon as the video shows... I must have been having so much fun with the GT3's out there. I was pleased to knock 1.5 seconds off my PB after promising to 'take it easy' after the winter hibernation.
Ridge is tough on tires I am finding. The elevation drops tight into a couple of the turns shave of $$'ss.
Still, it was great to see 50 drivers/ riders show up in February for a dry day.

Public service announcement for the west coast folks: The Ridge in Washington, and especially Oregon Raceway park-ORP, are definately worth a road trip!

Cheers,

Good to meet you as well. I was actually supposed to seek you out and talk to you about your car after talking with greg. I totally forgot but still ended up gravitating to your car and build anyway. Mine is on its way to that point also over the next couple seasons. Heard you had some really good times out there.
