I say neither..give it to starving/homeless kids in the 3rd world..it would be the best present to yourself. You'll be surprised how a little money goes a long way in places...

I might not necessarily choose that option, but you raise a good point that one can always donate the money to a good cause.

Edit: removed off-topic stuff. You can check the revision history (click Edited link below), if you really want to know what I think of this specific suggestion.

No offense to all of you Rolex fans out there... But Rolex is an old man's watch! They don't quite come with the "prestige" that many modern luxury watch brands do now. Omega certainly makes fine timepieces, but ask your loving wife for the Panerai and never look back!

EDIT: Also, being that you are clearly into racing... Check out BRM timepieces as well.

no question - the timepiece (not a watch). a timex is a watch.

i have a jaeger-lecoultre master compressor chronograph. you cannot really compare a fine timepiece to driving school though as the price is too different.

my seamaster collects dust in the gun safe. it is not a fine timepiece. it was a stepping stone. now a panerai is super fine.

Does the school option include 2-day //M school at Nurburgring? Take that and get one of those //M watches with carbon fiber face. I love mine!
