A very superficial review, with not too much insight or new info....would have been nice if they put the two into some objective tests. He did make some good subjective points tho:
  • M Dynamic Mode: Allows you a decent bit of wiggle room without making a fool of yourself...+ for BMW
  • Steering: + for Audi
  • Engine Sound: Just barely a + for BMW?
  • Gear Box: + for Audi
  • Body Roll: + for BMW
  • Audi feels more alive?

Nice to see space gray in action tho, haven't seen much of it

That's the worst review I've seen yet. Nothing to change your mind either way, no real comparisons. So dumb. But I'm not surprised, it is MSN.

Sorry..but sure you understand English better than me...:-)
In fact I wrote nice video, not nice review, because I had the same doubts and I was considering only the nice combination of space gray-red M3.

That was actually quite a succinct and accurate comparison. The fact that there were no mind-blowing conclusions very much reflects how it feels to compare them in reality.

A "Consumer Report" review... quite bland and nothing insightful. Don't think the test driver is skilled enough to push the cars to the limit to find their true characters.

Told me exactly what I wanted to know, the M3 is the hooligans car, the RS4 isnt. Looks like I made the right decision. If it wont step out on corners and try and kill me whats the point? Had 4 quattros on the trot and tbh, apart from the one I have now which has cost me a small fortune to get the handling right, Im bored f*ckless of it. RWD here we come!

Is it not true that Audi lost money of every single RS4 sold. They basically decided to take on the M3 at any cost and did not care whether they made money or not. This (I believe) is partly why it has been discontinued early. Why continue to lose money when you can no longer claim it is better.

From buyers point of view, you could conclude that you get more car for your money by buying an RS4 as the actual cost of it is higher than an M3. On the other hand, if the only way that Audi can beat the M3 is by selling the car at a loss, then comparisons are not exactly the same.

It seems the new RS4 will be better than the E92 M3 - but the new owners of VW/Audi (namely Porsche) may conclude that they actually have to make a profit on the RS4 in future rather than just seeing it as a loss leader for image purposes. If this is the case, then the new RS4 may not be that far ahead or it may be a lot more expensive.

As a consumer, you have to love the battle going on - we get supercar engineering at discounted prices. Only problem is that i don't believe he residuals on these cars are going to hold up as well as they have historically. More cars, more enthusiasts, relatively more affordable, just means second hand values must go down.

Typical middle of the road review from the English. However, the best part was I got to see what a Sparkling Graphite with fox red interor looks like. That's definitely my choice.

One point for consideration for me is body roll. I want minimal to no body roll period.

The M3 gearbox will be better once the miles is running in. I bet the M3 in this test hasnt been driven in yet therefore the gearbox might be a little harsh or not smooth in the beginning of the cars lifecycle. Wait for more miles.
I know my manual gearbox in my previous car become better after some time.

Never heard something like: Everbody's just as smart as he feels. Wonder why...

I also don't have a problem with that review - it is far preferable for someone, after listing the cars' peculiar characteristics, to admit that it is a tough job to choose between them, than to try to conjure up a devastating story out of thin air (even if it makes it less entertaining).

The truth is that both cars probably give you a pretty similarly sized package, even if they each have their own way of doing it. I personally would not be too concerned about being on the "wrong" side of the Audi/BMW fence.

FWIW, I don't know the age of the car they tested, but after 1,000 miles in my M3, the gear-shift has improved so much that it feels like a different car - the shortish throw has gone from feeling tight, slow and notchy to being clean and quick, but not loose. If the Audi is actually better than this it must be very good indeed.

im trying to figure out how he believes hat the Audi feels more alive ?? IMO awd can only play it save, where as rwd on the M3 should be the one that keeps you awake if you do push the car to its limits...

review was very "blah" (sorry for the poor word choice). a good review should be based on visual comparisons (performance etc.) and not on the opinion of the person testing the vehicle. i should be the one coming up with the conclusion based on what i have seen...which wasn't much.

Well the review is also from October... when most reviewers of the car hadn't become acquainted with it. Many of the poor reviews that were given early on were then later recanted as the drivers got a better feel for the M3.

So basicly this review should be ignored now since it's been dated.
