"Loose" ring above transmission flange?

Hi folks,

I was replacing my 6MT drive shaft and noticed something looked like a loose ring on the shaft right above the transmission flange. I'm able to turn the ring around but can't really push it back and forth. I'm not quite sure whether it was intended to be there since there was also some seeping oil around that area too.

I appreciate any insights you can share on this.

I think that is the lock ring for the selector shaft coupler. Keeps the pin in the slot.

Yeah It keeps the pin from coming out, it’s not a permanent fixture but it won’t fall out. That selector shaft seal is a replaceable part as the inside of it is a foam like material and wears overtime causing slop in the shift assembly.

It’s just a lock ring, don’t lose sleep over it.
