I showed the dealer I bought my car from the low oil light and they topped it off for me. Although they charged me for M3 mats...
That said, it's all dealer (or really technician/service advisor) dependent. |

What oil do you put in if you're not getting it at the dealer? .

While it may not technically be covered, I would seek a new dealership. Even in Manhattan, at the only Factory owned dealership, they include top offs. I am in and out in 5 minutes.

How cheap are you guys to stress over buying a quart of oil. Maybe you should have your daddy pay for it?

I can't believe people would take the time and use the gas to actually go to a dealer and ask for a top-off. I can do it myself in 30 seconds. 30 seconds. If I lived across the street from a dealer, it still wouldn't be worth my time and effort to drive across the street, give it over to someone else, talk to an SA, and wait for them to bring it back to me.
A couple weeks ago I was waiting for a couple of hours at a Portland dealer and couldn't believe the number of people came in to have air put in their tires. It was the first cold weather of the season so there were a lot of people coming in because their TPMS light was on. It's just amazing that there are that many people that are apparently incapable of adding air to their tires and pushing the TPMS reset button. I consider adding a little oil to be in the same category. If you are an elderly woman driving a 7 series, no problem, but less-than-elderly guys driving performance oriented cars who do this just make wonder.

My service advisor actually topped mine off himself. Lol. If they say its not covered tell them to change the oil then since that is covered

I get a free bottle everytime I need one from the dealer. Just go to another dealer then.

For what it's worth, the dealer in Germany that performed my 1200 mile service gave me about half bottle...
Kept it 'till my last day in Europe. Chickened out when it came time to pack it in my suitcase and gave it to a homeless guy for fuel on those cold Munich nights... Kidding about the homeless guy. Bummed me out not to bring the oil back, but assumed attempting to smuggle flammable liquids into the unpressurized cabin of an airbus was a bad idea. |

Do your local M owners a favor and post the dealer's name so they stay away from that stealership. Similar to everyone here, I never have to ask to top off fluids (oil etc.), and more often than not it is done for me without asking. I was actually given an extra quart to take with me the last time I did an oil change.

Funny. Except gas isn't a service/maintenence fluid.
