What tires and pressures? I found myself in a catch 22 with PS2's on stock suspension at Barber a few weeks ago. If I ran a proper pressure the tires would grip decently but would wear super fast. If I ran a higher pressure, the tires would not get eaten as bad, but it was like ice skating. More camber would change that (and better tires, I switched to AD08). |

i stay at 29-30 cold, which gets me to 38-40 hot. they wear well and scrub at the proper areas at those pressures, other than the slopey wearing from camber. lol.
this is with 275 nitto nt-01s. |

really? explain, please... harder sidewall should limit, no? or is it b/c of the softer compound it feels looser, similar to the tail wag under hard braking?

Higher grip results in higher g forces, which causes the car to lean more. Harder sidewalls are better, yes, but the softer compound is more important. Running in very low traction conditions will result in less body roll and vice versa. I don't know any physics terms really to explain it, but the general rule is the higher the grip the more lean and the lower the grip the less lean.

Just thinking out loud, if you have more tire grip it would cause the suspension to work harder thus more lean right?

I use -2.2 chamber on my NT-01's and they wear great ( still some on the outer edge but not bad). Had them originally set at -2.8 which was perfect on the track, but I got rapid wear on the insides ( over 8000 miles). Dropped down to -2.2 as a good compromise. Definitely get the chamber plates: better wear and better traction. The NT-01's appear to need more than the street tires ( like AD08's etc.). My plates are adjustable, but wasn't worth the effort ( for lazy me).

I'll chime in that I've actually had people mention the "lack" of body roll on my car. I do have Dinan Stg. 3, but as bigjae mentioned earlier, they don't do that much as its a compromise setup. Also, have to reaffirm the tires comments. I run AD08's and even though they're pretty grippy, I am always sliding around corners as I desperately search for grip, and with grip comes roll. No grip, no roll. Maybe take it down a notch on the tires and see how that feels. The R-comps definitely exacerbate the situation and also, when switching to AD08's or RS-3's you have the excuse that your "just in street tires"

Just got back from a 3 day event at LCMT. As I mentioned, I have increased front camber to -2.8 (from -2.3) to try to improve wear on my NT01 outer edges.
The increased camber only slightly improved wear. Better than before, but I still see a slight rounding of the shoulders. The -2.8 definitely improved handling though with much better turn in and front end grip. The car is a bit more tail happy; but it makes it kinda fun . It seems that the NT01 are like the RA1 were on my good old mark II VW GTI, they like a lot of camber. Last edited by CanAutM3; 08-10-2012 at 04:34 PM.. |
