Jack suggestions.

I need recommendetions for a hydraulic jack, mainly to be used for seasonal tire swaps. What should I be looking for?

For home DIY users, this will do great job for the price.
I'm using it for 3-4 years and very happy with ti.

Also, look at how much the jacks weigh that you are considering. A lightweight jack certainly helps when you are swapping tires/wheels.

Yeah went to harbor freight site. They have a nice low profile jack that's less then 100 bucks really can't beat that. But def get jack Stands too.
I messed up one of those lightweight aluminum jack but just using the jack. The seals aren't the best but for the money there good

Yes, you definitely need jack stands with any jack! The jackstands should hold the car up, not the jack. Last thing you want is the car to fall on you while you are working on it.

A friend of mine's father passed away when he was doing an oil change under the car, the jack slipped and the car fell on him. RIP

I recently bought this jack at a local Harbor Freight store. It's very light weight and cost me ~$60 with a coupon.

I also use only for seasonal tire changes. I haven't swapped out the winter tires yet (85 today!!) but will soon. I tested the jack and it held steady for about three hours - good enough fo me.

He specifically said when you are working under the car. I hope you're not changing tires from there.
I think with tire changes you should be fine without jack stands since the car shouldn't be lifted for more then 5 minutes for each tire. Just make sure the car is stable so it doesn't slip off the jack when you are putting the tire on and taking it off.

Actually, smart-arse. He said "working on", not "working under". So technically that could mean anything from standing on the hood while changing a tire, or simply USING the jack.

I totally agree ! If you don't have a jack stand handy then always slip the wheel you change under the car as a safety net ... and never, ever, go under the car without a jack stand in place !

This is a good jack! I recommend this jack to avoid install and removal on our low stance cars.

I too had a jack give out while changing a flat. My hand git caught between the wheel well and the tire. I was trapped there until someone heard me telling for help. I was lucky I only cracked a bone in my hand.

This was a very long time ago and using a scissor jack.

You were lucky indeed. Those small jacks can leak oil and when they do they give away. Glad you got away with just a broken bone and did not loose your hand.

Just got a mailer from Harbor Freight.
The 1.5 ton jack is $59.99.

I'd still have the car on jack stands even if you aren't going under the car. You may not get crushed but your car will definitely get damaged if the car falls and you can get injured as well.

Floor jacks are not designed to hold the car up for extended periods of time. They are on wheels and can roll or slip.
