Thanks. I knew I was forgetting stuff.

If I need a jack I'll need to bum one. My jack is one of the long reach AC hydraulic ones and it isn't really portable.

Wow, to hell with this. Good thing my wife is out of town, I'm gonna run out and buy a nice X5 to tow my car and all this stuff I appear to need

But seriously, a few questions:

1. Do I need a tow strap or is the OEM one in the tool kit sufficient?
2. What do you guys use for a compressor? I have the one that came with the flat kit in the trunk, but that isn't exactly great.
3. Where can I buy a grease pen?
4. Do I need a Solo and Go Pro my first time out?

First ever track event? Just bring a car, an open mind, and leave the ego at home.

And plenty of water. You don't need ANY of that junk in the list except helmet.

Yes, first event.

I don't feel like I should turn up empty handed but I don't want to overdo it.

Certainly no ego.

if its your first time out you really dont need all the stuff listed. you wont be changing pads or much of anything else. checking tire pressures is about it. just go and have fun. your original list will be fine first time out. i didnt bring much of anything besides lunch the first year i went.

What you'll find with this "sport" is a gentlemanly spirit and a willingness to help a fellow participant.

When I first started doing this, I used to pack everything under the sun, and that NEVER seemed to be enough. At just about every event I come to find something else I need. But guess what? Guys I share a paddox with stepped up and helped a noob out.

I pay them back by paying it forward. When someone needs a spare set of brake pads just to get home, I give them my spare street pads. If someone needed to borrow my shock adjuster, feel free as long as you put it back where you found it.

We (my friends and I) got to a point, since for a while we all drove the same cars, split up a list of thing to bring so we're not there packing and unpacking each day for hours before and after the event. If you want to avoid the same fate, I suggest you con some friends into joining you at the track in the future.

Yeah, park next to one of the guys above

First, time, bring tire pressure gauge and the air compressor in your trunk ( usually sites have air hoses but the spare tire compressor will do in a pinch). You are likely to be spending most of the day letting air out of your tires to keep the hot psi from getting too high.

Bring something to drink and walk around and talk to the other guys.

I have had people borrow my jack, wrenches, oil, spare brake pads, and even borrow tires for 2 days at an event. I think people are pretty cool about sharing...

So usually I bring a lot of stuff with my E46 M3, but this weekend the E46 was in the shop so I brought my 911. This car doesn't really allow you to bring much. The main things that I brought for myself were:
Torque Wrench
Pressure Gauge, Air Compressor, and Extension Cord
Oil and Funnel
Ice Chest
Chairs
Helmet, Head Sock, Shoes and Gloves
Painters Tape
Paper Towels and Window Cleaner

Since a bunch of us usually help each other with tires, I also brought my impact wrench and a 17 mm socket along with some nitrile gloves. Didn't use it on my car, but on a couple of the M3s.

If I had an extra set of pads, I would've brought those.

Really nice list, you have all of the basics PLUS more. So most likely you don't need to add anything, especially with it being your first time. Definitely NO GoPro or Solo, as it will take your focus off of driving IMO; add it later.

You may want to add:
  • folding chair to sit on
  • food, drinks, and snacks to keep energy up
  • notebook with track map to take notes
  • lots of layers for weather conditions

And I usually also bring:
  • chalk for tires
  • rubber mallet
  • wheel ramps so I don't have to use the parking break!!!
  • bicycle & bike rack because it gets tiring walking everywhere

Thanks for the input everyone.

I think I'm going to scale way back on my original list. From the sound of things I could borrow things in a pinch (but I don't want to be "that guy"), but for a first time out I don't want to overpack (and end up being "that other guy" ).
