Kitchen drain is backed up. How do I loosen this?

So my kitchen drain is backed up. Tried removing all the pipes to make sure it isn\'t clogged.

I would like to open this but not sure how. Is there a specific tool I can buy to open this?

"I would like to open this", "is there a pacific tool I can buy" and "I romoved all pipes" all mean you have no fuckin I idea what your doing. This also means your going to be there for a really long time, spending most of it "thinking" and the rest of it "trying". In the end you are most likely going to solve nothing, but create stress a d a headache. Just call a plumber now, as your most likely going to end up doing it anyway.

Take a plunger to the drain first. That may do the trick without taking everything apart.

need more info, I there is no disposal just send a snake down there, plunger would not
be my first choice.

if you have a disposal you may need to remove it as someone else said, have a bucket close by. If you have a disposal you shouldn't be having this problem and you may have a root problem.

Thats a clean out...take a wrench and turn to the left (counter clock wise)... Keep a bucket handy...insert a snake and then clean out the pipes...

speaking of kitchen drains, i have the same problem at my house as well.

we do have a garbage disposal and have used the key to use the "self clean" function on it and have tried every snake & drain chemical there is.

right now i think it is more than a clog, never been this bad before. i am debating weather or not to call roto rooter and use their camera service.

any of you guys have experience with roto rooter? also is it safe to run kitchen sink w/o garbage disposal?

im hoping this is simple that can be easily fixed cause the last thing i want is to tear the wall down to fix the pipe behind the kitchen sink...

Using the key on the garbage disposal isn't going to unclog your plumbing.

Did you put potato peels in the disposal? The starch in the potato peels sticks to the pipe walls, clogging them.

In the diagram below, the pipe in red has a diverter in it, so the water coming from the other sink doesn't start flowing up. This is the pipe that usually gets clogged.

^ although we have a disposal we don't put potato peels, vegetables, etc in there. we catch whatever big things are caught on the sink drain and dispose the smaller pieces left behind.

my sink is a single with 1 tube going from the sink to disposal and out behind the wall. it clogged before but went away with chemicals, never was this bad before so we are worried about having to tear the wall apart behind if we can't figure out whats wrong.

afaik roto rooter is the only place i know that uses fiber optic to see what is causing the back up. im not sure what other route to go.

Did you disconnect the trap? Put a bucket underneath to catch the water first before disconnecting.

You can then get a snake from the hardware store and see if you can push it down the pipe.

^ here is what we did so far

1. changed the disposal with a new one: still backed up
2. returned new disposal and just ran a straight pipe from the sink to drain: still backed up
3. with the straight pipe still in place, we tried snake and all possible chemical solutions: still backed up

what is there left to do and what do you think is the problem? you think the roto rooter idea is the best bet and go in there with a camera?

Are there any other drains (bathroom sinks, toilets, laundry room) in your house stopped up? If not, I would say your problem is localized to the kitchen sink. Time to call a plumber....

Sorry for the late response. Was quite busy earlier.

My sink looks exactly like that. When I use the left sink, the water will get backed up on the left sink and eventually flooding the right sink.

I will look into that red part you highlighted and see if it will fix the clog.

Thanks guys

Nothing else is backed up except for the kitchen drain. I tried removing the red part and it is not clogged.
