2012 BMW Car Club of BC Duffey Lake Trip - M Content

The BMW Car Club of BC did the 15th annual Duffey Lake trip this past weekend. We had 13 cars on the trip, so I am posting pictures only of the various M cars in the group, which still makes a sizeable selection.

Length of the drive was ~1000km / ~600mi over 2 days. Digital camera was a Canon EOS 50D + lens Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM + B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer. Video camera was a GoPro HD Hero 960.

Route Map:

Meeting point for the start of Day 1, West Vancouver, Marker B:

Yes, this stock E36 M3 completed the Vancouver -> Yukon -> Alaska Alcan Winter Rally this past winter.

Stop in Pemberton, BC, Marker C to regroup, start of the Duffey Lake Road:

Stop in Seton Lake, Marker D, end of the Duffey Lake Road:

Lunch in Lillooet, BC, Marker E:

Stop in Cache Creek, BC, Marker F:

Stop in Logan Lake, BC, Marker G:

Day 2, starting out from the hotel parking lot in Kamloops, BC, Marker H:

Stop in Marker I, Merritt BC:

Chevron 94 Supreme Plus - No Ethanol - Endorsed by my 2011 Melbourne Red BMW M3 Sedan!

Stop in Aspen Grove, BC, just outside Merritt:

Atop Cascade Lookout, Manning Provincial Park, BC, Marker J:

Hope Slide, BC, Marker K, end of the trip:

Videos in the next post coming slowly.

First video was taken between Markers F and G on the map. Starting out in Cache Creek, the group travels on Highway 1 until Savona, with nice wide open views and gentle curves. This part of the video is sped up 5x. Then, we make the turn-off at Savona for Tunkwa Lake Road, where the video returns to 1x speed and you get to enjoy this epic rural road in its full glory. I was following the 2008 Space Grey E92 M3 Coupe in this video.

Second video, Duffey Lake Road with the rear trunk cam. This is between Markers C and D on the map, is the namesake of this trip (and the reason we've done it for 15 years straight), and is the 3rd best driving / riding road in Souther BC. I was hoping to either have the Silverstone E92 M3 Coupe or the Valencia Orange E82 1M Coupe in view, but they got caught at the light right at the start and then never managed to catch back up Sped up 5x, my M3's exhaust sounds like a bike

Third video, Lillooet to Cache Creek (from Markers E to F) which is just beyond the northern end of BC Highway 99 (southern end: US Interstate 5 terminus at the Mexican border), with the dash cam. Mostly following the E82 1M Coupe.

Fourth video, Logan Lake to Kamloops (from Markers G to H) via Lac La Jeune Road (newly minted BC Highway 97D), with the rear trunk cam now being followed in turn by the same Valencia Orange 1M Coupe.

Fifth video, Day 2 starts out from Kamloops to Merritt (from Markers H to I) via the Old Kamloops - Princeton Highway (BC Highway 5A). Mostly following the Dakar Yellow E36 M3 Coupe.

Sixth video, Day 2 continues from Aspen Grove (just outside Marker I) to Princeton via the same BC Highway 5A. Now following the Alpine White E36 M3 Sedan.

Final video, climbing the access road from the Manning Park Lodge to the Cascade Lookout (Marker J). 1x speed, less than 10min, 7.5km and 500m up... scary even if you were hiking up on foot, but the views are worth it. Official end of the trip, and of course it was the M-car owners sticking around until the end

More will be coming in the upcoming days.
The S65B40 on fast forward sounds hysterical. Cheers to you sir!

Great pictures, thanks for sharing. I really miss Vancouver, I use to live there back in the late 90's. B.C. has the best scenery I've seen in my life.

Of course not! How we have fun is to do the sensible speed-limit + 10km/h throughout... even in the tight S-curves followed by a hairpin switchback

Hey, the yellow speed advisory signs are SUGGESTIONS for lesser cars, not REQUIRED for BMWs driven by enthusiasts

Besides, we keep it clean so no driving on the wrong side of the double-yellow unless the sight line is clear and we're waved through by the motorist ahead, which happened a few times.

PS second video is now posted and more coming hopefully daily.

Just dropping a note here that all 7 videos have been posted in the 4th post of this thread. Clips from:

- Pemberton -> Seton Lake
- Lillooet -> Cache Creek
- Cache Creek -> Logan Lake
- Logan Lake -> Kamloops
- Kamloops -> Merritt
- Aspen Grove -> Princeton
- Cascade Lookout, Manning Park

Pretty much the whole 2 days drive is posted, except for the sort-of mundane Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Pemberton in the morning of Day 1, the sort-of mundane Crowsnest Highway from Princeton to Hope, and the VERY mundane Trans-Canada Highway from Hope back to Vancouver.

Enjoy!
