The 19's look "meh" stock but if you paint them black they look amazing.

Often times the first thing people say they love about my car lookswise are the 19s. I don't think they they are too chromish. Granted the 18s may look more aggressive but the 19s have the flair and visual appeal...at least for me.

You live in the sun so they're shiny. We're really just a bunch of magpies

Haha...well I like the 18s too particularly on certain color combos. Yes I live in the sun and the wheels are easier to take care of here than where you are. The 18s can go a long while before they look dirty which I imagine is a good thing up north

I have the 18s. I think they have an understated menace and look a bit more unique, whereas the 19s just look like every other rim you see out there. I'm probably in the minority though.

I voted for the 19's which I have but I was seconds away from ordering the 18's which I think look good but you really can't beat a 19 inch forged wheel for $1200 more and it is actually a bit lighter than the 18s. That made up my mind and I don't regret it one bit.

I voted for the 19s because I just think it's a great deal for the money. However, some colors/body styles just look better with the 18s. I think you need to account for the entire "look" of the car, not just the wheels.
It also depends on the roads you drive. Crappy roads, potholes, etc., I'd think you'd be better off with the 18s. I know of one instance where if I'd had 19s they'd have been toast (the extra rubber saved my tires/wheels). Personally, I like the 18s on my AW vert--I don't think it would look as good with the 19s. And I'm on a mission to eliminate any "chrome" type look on the car, so the color of the 18s is in alignment with that goal. I'm just not sticking to one camp--I'll say it depends on several factors. |

18"s for me. I wanted to keep the bling factor down and I liked the non flat faced spokes on the 18's. If they offered the same wheel in 19s though, I would have ordered them.

I think the 18s look better than the 19s on the following colors: alpine white, sparkling graphite, and silverstone. I definitely think the 19s look better on the blacks and interlagos. I think both look equally as good on melbourne red.
The decision I believe comes to your modding habits. I for one have always bought aftermarket wheels, so I think the 18s are better in terms of overall handling, ride comfort, and tires. Not only are tires cheaper for the 18s by a significant margin, but there are a lot more choices out there, whether it be track tires or winter tires.

I was thinking the complete opposite. Everyone is surprised my 19s come from the factory.

I wish stock 18s (color/design) in 19s. That'll be my pick.
I like stock 19 as well but it's not unique anymore (don't get me wrong- it's beautiful wheels still, I just don't get the "wow" feel like when I saw E46's 19 very first time) since it's somewhat close to E46M3's.

How many people here who have 19" ever drove an E9? M3 with 18"?
It's serious question because the difference in ride quality and balance it quite surprising. I got an M3 out on a test drive when I was considering the M and that car was fitted with 19", I actually decided against it back then and only considered it again over 7 months late when another dealer had one with DCT. I as always requested the car out for a day so I got to drive it around the roads I was familiar with and this M3 was fitted with the stock 18", the ride difference was remarkable, were as before it bounced from bump to bump and the imperfections were very noticeable this M3 flowed over the road. Needless to say I ordered the M3 thus equipped and knew in my own mind that I had probably the best equipped M3 available (18"+EDC). Also as someone else remarked on, the 18" do happen to give the M3 an aggressive stance but it's much more colour dependent, pick the wrong colour and the wheels look awful which is something one could never say about the 19". |
