Battery recall?

I have '08 e93 and mileage is about 4xxxx. So far, the dealer had to replace my battery twice and ran into same issue again couple months ago. My warranty expired last August, but since last battery replacement was done less a year ago, the dealer told me that it is still under warranty.

But this time, instead of replacing my battery, they recharged it and told me that there is going to be a recall on the battery in couple of months. Is this true? Is anyone aware of this? Let me know. Thanks!!

So there's a pre-recall notice to dealers? Sounds bogus to me, but I'm a skeptic at heart.

Just to let you know. I replaced my battery myself a week ago. It's also an 08 E93. I have 65k miles. The battery cost $200 at auto zone. It took about a half hr to replace. The dealership wanted to charge me $629.

Not getting the battery registered is a surefire way to destroy it as the vehicle is not aware of replacement, and still putting out full charging.

The dealer can code it, or you can find a local person that performs BMW coding. It's not an iDrive option.

Not registering a battery might shorten its life or make the alternator run longer but it's not likely to "destroy" anything

Recall sounds like shenanigans to get out if warranty work. Get it in writing or it didn't happen

AGM batteries are very sensitive to overcharging compared to lead-acid types.

Yes that is true. But The charging system isn't changing how much charging is going on by orders of magnitude based on age/condition of battery, it's just not that different from new to old, nor does it allow a huge change in voltage. So a like and kind replacement should be registered as a best practice but you aren't going to fry anything either if you wait a while or even forego it completely. Less than optimal yes, but destroy? Nah, unless shorter than optimal life is destruction. The track record for those who have tried bears this out at least anecdotally if not conclusively
