2012 E63 AMG gets new 5.5 V8

http://www.worldcarfans.com/11104183...m-new-55-liter

Current model has 6.2 V8 (525bhp/630Nm). New model will have 5.5 V8 (518bhp) and performance pack will give 549bhp/800Nm. Fuel economy is improved to 9.8l/100km which is something like 28mpg?

I'm gonna need to hear and feel it in person before I can pass judgment. The M156 is a gem...hate to see it go.

This new engine does sound quite good but I don't think it sounds as good as the 6.2.

Jizz. You just had to post a vid of my new favorite sport sedan. God I want that thing. Well at least this new 5.5 sounds similar to the M156 around mid revs. Sounds raspy up top though.

This story originally came from a relatively obscure German blog and then went all over the place. It's not certain if it will be available yet here at the moment, and the official Daimler media website says nothing about it for the E63 as of today.

I'm partial to NA motors and glad that the M156 will still be in the C Class, and the M159 (based in the M156) will still be in the SLS.

This M157 5.5TT is not an AMG designed motor and is based instead on the new M278 used in the rest of the Mercedes fleet. We all know this is primarily all about costs and CAFE regulations, and getting power with okay mpg and out of a smaller package. Plus there will be DFI, stop/go, and no gas guzzler tax. So it also becomes a better sales and profit issue, too.

the M156 is the only AMG designed motor ever made

Lets hope were not coming out of a golden age of motors. Seeing the retirement of the M156 and S85 for TT V8s is depressing already.

It might not sound quite as good as before but if this video is anything to go by then it still appears to sounds better than what the new M5 will be like. Mercedes always seem to be able to give their AMG cars that bit better of a engine/exhaust note than just about everyone else.

Can't wait until all three (E63, M5 and RS6) are all together competing for the crown once more.

The future has arrived. Say goodbye to the sweet sounding engines but say hello to gobbles of torque.

That engine sounds way better then the one in the x5m-x6m-m5 which sounds terrible...I don't roll down my window when one of those drive by me.

Guess they had to do this to stay competitive with the M5. I liked the old wheels more though
