Haha, nice. Can't go wrong with a Springfield XD. I looked at them long and hard before I went with a glock for my 9mm. In my pic I have a Springfield Champion Operator. But you are just as capable sir of defending your home and documenting what time the zombie invasion started as I am.

Big fan of the Explorer IIs, I think at some point I'm going to look for an older model with the white face. It's a very clean model, and not as common as the Submariner.

And to avoid completely jacking the thread, I say go with the watch, no matter what watch you buy. If you do it right and care for it properly it will be something you can hand down to your kids...

His smugness is fogging up his common sense. I guess he forgets that military/aviation spec'd watches were larger for visibility along with the use of tritium. Men's watches are also naturally larger for obvious reasons.

The MSRP on the Vict is only about 1200 whereas the brand new model Rolex Explorer II is going for around 7. Or at least it will be when it is released this fall.

What do you guys think? I dont really care for traditional grandpa looking watches like those panerais'. I am sure they are very well made but I just dont care for the look of them at all.
odd comparison. i'm not much of a rolex fan, although I do own a submariner. but I do like Victorinox.

How do you like the GMTIIc? Ever think about selling it

I have a planet ocean, but the GMTII has always been a grail to me, the size just doesn't look good on my wrist.

I'll have to post a picture of my little collection...

just got one here and i absolutely love it. was considering an omega as well to keep the potential douche-factor low but in the end it was the watch I really wanted and love to look at and wear. it's a gorgeous piece, get it!

The GMT is my favorite. I am amazed at how they get so many complications to work on one piece without any pushers. The PO is a great watch. I wish they made a 42mm PO chrono. The 45.5mm is too big for me. Re: selling, never gonna sell any of them though my Rolies could sell for more than I paid for them. Rolex has priced themselves out to the point where I'd consider other brands like JLC and IWC first. But they hold their value better than any other brand I've seen.

You know, that's really irrelevant, right? I guess these same people can't wear a Pea Coat since they never served in the Navy? See where I'm going? Again, you don't have a fair critique of the design, you're just nitpicking. Why would one have to have served in the military or have touched a firearm prior to ownership? That's bizarre.

I got both, and I track my car a fair bit. So I would def say the BBK. If I did not track the car, I would go for the PAM.

Our conversation has gone something like this:

Me: Oversized flashy watches look bad.. look at that guy, his watch is bigger than his hand.

You: The watches are giant because pilots and divers need to see them!

Me: But that guy is not a pilot, he is sitting behind a desk, he can't even button his shirt cuffs because his watch is so big, and yes.. the watch still looks stupid.

You: The company that made that watch was founded in 1860!! They were instrumental in Italy's efforts in World war II!

Me: What the fuck does that have to do with how the watch looks NOW? Plus that's just about the worst brand heritage you could have this side of Volkswagen.

You: But, but, your arguments are irrelevant!! Does he need to be a pilot to fly a plane to wear a watch that is the size of a plane? He could be wearing a peacoat but not be in the Navy!

Me: WTF dude, nevermind.

Your entire position thus far is a personal one and way too emotional for the topic. Implying one has to have military history or has to have familiarity with firearms to have reason to own a Panerai is about is as stupid of an argument as I've heard yet. Claiming Panerai is somehow appeasing the consumer by creating big-faced timepieces is equally stupid unless you can prove that was a part of their marketing plan say some 150 years ago when they were exclusively a military supplier. The watch is large because of the military spec. Get over it. Should Panerai start making feminine-sized timepieces because they no longer supply the Italian military???? Are you being difficult for the sake of being difficult or are you really this thick? No disrespect. Anyone who can appreciate historical relevance and staying true to one's roots in terms of replicating watches of yesteryear can understand my point. Those who's taste is in way left field and enjoy pulling asinine arguments out of their ass probably can't.

Nevermind...
