QUESTION!: If I do get the CEL will it be fine to just reset the car? My friend was saying how his friend bought something to make the Sensor read the aftermarket exhaust as stock. Any help would help =] Thanks guys! (E92)

Resetting the ECU would clear the code for a bit, but it would definitely come back. A few companies make software that will get rid of it altogether though. A tune should be able to get rid of it as well, might as well do it with your new exhaust.

Yes it's fine

Won't hurt the car, you will just not be able to pass smog.

I'd suggest a tune to correct the issue

Probably won't pass with a tune either, depending what your state requires, and if you need to pass readiness. If you don't need readiness you can just get the Akra delete-r

I don't know all the inspection laws for all states for all years of production, but in at least some states, the car will pass without all readiness monitored items functioning. For example, in NH or MA, at least a 96-2000 car will pass with both rear 02 and the secondary air pump turned off in the software. That is 3 items monitored for readiness that need not be ready. I think that is about the limit.

Anyone who does inspection work know more about readiness monitor requirements for 2008-2011 cars? I think the requirements are stiffer, but again, they may vary by state. Here is TX, for example:

I think the question is, if you take your vehicle to pass a state inspection at any place certified to run a state inspection, will it pass with the tune?

I guess it depends on if whatever state you're in conducts a readiness test. If they do, then I don't see how they would pass you if your O2 sensors are not "ready," unless they just let you slide or something.

If you're saying that the Dinan tune leaves the O2 sensors as "ready" but somehow doesn't throw an error, then I am really interested.

Not trying to be a dick, just trying to get the question answered with no beating around the bush. I want to go catless, but only if I can pass a state inspection.

Edit: Reading the NY info that was posted, you should have failed unless the Dinan tune somehow shows the O2 sensors as "ready" when they do the inspection. Or whoever did the state inspection just let you slide because they admire the ride

The inspection station cannot let you slide if they plug into your car and your car exceeds the number of allowed readiness failures. There is no inspection station programming. It goes directly into the state computer.

There are other tricks people have done with cooperating inspection stations, but due to the significant fine, many stations are not willing to risk this.

You could simply swap your catted midpipe back in once a year and flash your car back to stock.

I'm pretty sure the first year inspection in NY is safety only, they didn't check readiness so you passed. Next year you will not pass if rear O2 is off.

If I remember correct first year was a $10 inspection, then it goes up to $35 cause it's a more involved test.
