"Carbon Leather" Source?

I was looking at this thread, discussing a "carbon leather" alternative used to cover interior pieces. It looks like Pyspeed no longer lists the CF Vinyl material, that was discussed.

This source came up in a google search...Wondering if anyone has experience with them, or with any of the particular vinyls on offer.

Here's a few pics of a few options they have...Top to bottom...

1) Carbon Fiber "Soft" Black
2) Shock Graphite Gray
3) Shock Jet Black
4) Skipper Slate Black

I ordered some samples, this morning, FWIW.

I'll post real world pics, against OE trim, when they arrive.

I'm confused -- are you trying to replace some of the original carbon leather trim, or are you just looking for something similar with more _____ (insert something like more color, more depth, tighter weave, etc).

I don't think the OEM stuff is really woven, it's just embossed leather.

Looking for a "match" to the OE stuff...the pictured examples are all embossed, as well.

Have a look at the 2 links...one is the source, the other is a thread discussing recovering center consoles, steering wheel trim, etc.

I think the OEM is made of both CF and leather. The Dashboard piece has a leather strip at the top that appears to be stitched to a piece of woven, un-polymered CF. Running a finger nail across it you can feel the nail snag fibers.

Looks like slate black is the closest match from the picture.

Even the pyspeed was not exactly the same pattern. The color is spot-on so its difficult to tell a difference unless you really study it up close. To late for me, but it will be interesting to hear if there is a better match.

Funny to read my comment on their shipping.. man, I was pissed. Hahaha.

Hey jdamore...I would like to hear your opinion when I post the samples...I'm sure I will have some install questions for you as well.

The last one looks like the closest bet. Looking forward to your samples and how they match. It'd be nice to get the centre console to match.

From my understanding the OE Carbon Leather is embossed.

Might be worth scooping up a sample of this to check it out..

http://corbin.com/materials/
scroll down and find "Carbon-Fiber leather, Black".

Interesting...I'm guessing Corbin wouldn't be too quick to sell material though.

I have the samples...I'll take some pics in a bit. Unfortunately, the Skipper is not as promising as it appeared on the web pics.

Here are the 2 "best" samples, help up against the OE Carbon Leather trim:

First is the Skipper, whose weave is different, and too coarse.

Second it the Carbon Soft (marked Spradling), which is actually not bad.

Agreed. The second one is a very, very close match. I think on the console/steering wheel you could pull it off because it's not in any direct contact with the OE trim and therefore the differences would not be as apparent.

The patern is amazingly close with the second sample. The color tho.. it makes the OE look faded in contrast.

I would keep searching.

Was trying to find other suppliers of Spradling, but none of them have it called Carbon Fiber Soft Black, I'm thinking Carbon Fiber Black that everyone else lists is the same thing.

If it is the same, Sprading has it selling on Amazon with much cheaper shipping rates:

Yeah...It's Spradling CAR-1100.

I ordered a yard from luvfabrics on Amazon.

They do have one other color "Flint" CAR-1110, but I think we would find that it has a little too much "brown" content.

I also requested a sample from Corbin...but I doubt they will sell material.

Price just went from $16/yd to $20/yd.
I guess I should have ordered some this morning when I found it. I'm thinking of trying it out also.

I have approximately two yards of the PYSpeed stuff left over from a project that I'd be happy to let go to a forum member. Just cover the shipping and we're good. I can probably ship it out in a padded envelope for relatively cheap.

I think that second photo actually looks better than the OEM stuff -- it has more depth.
