excuse my rod bearing knowledge ignorance but the 1250 option is just simply replacing oem bearings with oem bearings is that correct? only at 1500 and + options is there any sort of "preventative" measure taken to try to avoid rod bearing wear in the future

At this moment, we have not come to a conclusion on which package we'll be going with. This customer has driven the car beyond rod bearing replacement. We are actually going to be performing a crankshaft replacement, along with rod bearings
This car has 78k miles. Owner drove it as his daily car. One day he started hearing knock and brought it to us. He drove with the windows up all the time, so he did not hear the slight knocking it had caused. Eventually it started knocking and he could hear it inside the cabin. Once he heard it, he rolled down the window and realized how bad it was. Unfortunately it was too late and the crankshaft has been damaged. Scored beyond repair, we now must replace the crankshaft. A new crankshaft from BMW is over $2,000. Labor time is 31 hours! This is something you want to avoid by performing the rod bearing service! Please everyone, take care of your car and avoid this highly labor intensive repair. We'll be updating this thread with the job and show you guys the damages rod bearing failure causes! Here is today's S65 BE bearing installation. This car has 107k miles on it and has the original rod bearings.
As you can see, these bearings show significant signs of scoring. Two of the upper bearings were close to spinning. They practically fell out when we removed the connecting rod caps. Luckily, it has not and we were able to perform this repair before it became a big problem! |

I can vouch for SSR's work and crew.
Mike, Shah and the rest of the guys took care of me during my rod bearings install; they did an exceptional job with a half day turnaround time. Thanks boys! |
