Wow man-Crazy-Congrats!
Next time you should bring out a Vbox so you can get an accurate speed because the speedometers tend to be very inaccurate at high speeds.

You have some sack to stay one it until it topped out. I guess slowly building up is the only way to get that high and still stay calm and collected. Taking a picture at that speed leads me to believe you took a couple Zanax before hitting the track haha

100% IN for the GPS speed confirmed runs

Nice and love the pic! Thought I remember seeing a video of an M3 at 300 kph indicated speed but per the GPS unit was really around 280, so around 7% in that situation. Would also be nice to see the digital speedo as well. thx for sharing

Good information. I was under the impression that speedo error was just a fixed percentage. I have personally verified 3-4$ at speeds below 100 mph in my car, GPS vs. indicated. However, someone else also posted that they thought the percentage rose at higher speeds. I would love to see that information if you can find it.

There is certainly no reason BMW couldn't program the speeds to do anything they want. My idea that the correction is a fixed % is, I guess, a bit outdated and sort of an "analog"/"mechanical" way of thinking.

We have the ability to read the GPS speed at the same time as reading the BMW speedo directly from the CAN bus. Here's the data we collected during a race a few months ago. It looks like the speedo error is greatest at low speeds, and it looks like it stabilizes to about 3.0 - 3.5 % error. Keep in mind this is only one race, and only goes up to 155 MPH. Vehicle was E92 M3. Speed is on both X and Y axis.

This 3% error estimate at high speeds sounds about right to me.

This is purely anecdotal of course, but I reached an indicated 270 kph on a good stretch of autobahn. My pbox recorded me at a little over 161 mph (I had the pbox set to show me mph, and I kept the car's digital display set to kph so I didn't exceed posted speed limits). This works out to about 3% error.

Vbox pro with CAN connection was used to collect data.

Unfortunately post #33 and #34 appear to be a bit contradictory. The error in #33 is almost 6.5% (at 175 mph). As far as the very low speed results in post #34 I believe those are just natural issues with small differences in small numbers and dividing. The red and blue lines look very consistently different by a fixed percentage to me.

My car showed 168 mph when I hit the limiter on stock 19s. That takes some steel nuts to take a pic at that speed though. That being said I have done a 0-130 video one handed when I got my car. 6 speed haha
