New M3 Owner - BPMSport Tune Review
As someone that has wanted an M3 for over a decade, you can imagine how many times I fantasized about the day I would finally get my own M3, and be able to upgrade her to the 9's with the best of what's around.
Well, as some of you probably know by now, it finally happened about a month ago, and since then, I have been spending every waking spare minute, trolling this forum, and researching the plethora of mods, along with their respective reviews, that are available for "The Last True M". There are so many considerations that come into play when choosing one's mods. Each individual has their own focus. While one person might want to maintain the characteristics of a daily driver, another might be dedicated to raw racetrack bestiality. One person might want to stay very warranty-centric, while another may throw caution to the wind and do it all themselves. Regardless of what each person's focus is though, one area of common ground, is everyone's desire for quality when choosing what product they are going to put in their car. This same desire for quality is the reason I spent so many hours researching which tune to go with for my car. Before I owned this car, I had never done any modding. I didn't know anything about it. I didn't know what companies offered what products, or what were the most common items installed. It didn't take me long to find out who the heavy hitters were though, especially when it came to tuning. I read through countless forum posts about every possible tune out there. I guess you could say I took the online Tuning-For-Dummies course. After the forum search engine was done smoking, and I had read every possible tuning post out there, it seemed as though for each of the major tuners, the reviews were mixed... Some people loved the tune they got, while others weren't crazy about it and switched to something else. One tune however, albeit a relative newcomer to the game, seemed to stand out in the crowd; the BPMSport tune. In every single forum thread I read, every person absolutely loved the tune, particularly the Euro MDM feature included in the optional coding package. So, I decided to pick up the phone and give Mike a call. As many reviews have similarly described, when I spoke with Mike, I felt like he cared about helping me understand what his tune was about, and that he cared about what I wanted. He really took the time to explain everything to me, and really made me feel comfortable about tuning my car, since I was really nervous due to the fact I had never tuned one of my cars before. Mike gave me the customer service that I don't think you would get at a larger tuning firm. I was treated like a friend, rather than a customer. Aside from the customer service though, there was also something else that really struck me about Mike. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be "Passion". The way Mike spoke about his tune, exuded a resounding sense of passion and pride. You can tell he really cares about what he does, and he cares about making you happy. This, combined with the many positive reviews of the tune on the forum sealed the deal for me, and the results didn't dissapoint. One of my chief complaints with the car since I got it was the bucking / drivetrain clunking when shifting at lower rpms (I know, I know, I'm supposed to DRIVE the car, but when my fiance's in the car, I have to go easy.. ). The tune has really smoothed this out. I can also definitely feel the power increase where it was lacking at lower RPMs. I got the Stage 1 tune (Stage 2 coming in a couple weeks when ACM gets their next shipment of test pipes), and the butt dyno definitely registers some additional HP. Oddly enough, it has also increased my gas mileage a bit during my daily driving. I also like the difference in the sound note the engine makes due to the vanos updates. It sounds a bit deeper / throatier, instead of the "whine" I used to get at higher RPMs. And the Euro MDM..... Oh, the Euro MDM.... One sec... <throws tissues away> Okay. This update is unbelievable!! Why on earth they restricted the US MDM so much is beyond me. It's like marrying a porn star, but she is forced to wear a chastity belt for the length of your marriage... Mike's update provides the key to the belt. I have had her sideways so many times since the "belt" was unlocked (The CAR, not the pornstar!! God, your minds are in the gutter...) I am really happy with this choice. So if you are new to the game like me, and might be experiencing some trepidation, but want the best tune out there, I would say to go with Mike and the guys at BPM. You really won't regret it. Until about a week ago, I had never even heard of Mike, but after working with him on tuning my car, I now consider him a friend, and that is the kind of relationship I want with the person working on my car. Thanks again Mike, and keep up the great work!! Last edited by epbb; 05-13-2013 at 09:51 PM.. |

Nice review and I would have to agree with everything you have stated about mike. I am currently waiting for my stage 2 tune to arrive but unsure if I will notice a difference. I am just so used to the n54 tunes I think I have this tune built up in my mind and it will end up disappointing me.
