Exclamation MDCT Service Bulletins from BMW

I was doing some research on my M6 and decided to look at the MDCT since there are many members with issues.

Here are some BMW bulletins and a paraphrase of the contents. If you have a problem, please consult your SA....remember we are just hacks on the internet.
SI B28 01 08 - BMW states that the MDCT fluid doens't need to be changed and for Pete's sake if you do need to replace it (BMW DCTF-1 Pentosin) use the right fluid. If you use the wrong fluid it will "cause significant damage to the internal clutches of the transmission assembly, requirement of the transmission". I know we have had some members here where the fluid was improperly replaced.

SI B28 02 28 - BMW creates an enhanced technical support process (TeileClearing) to support people with MDCT issues. TeileClearing (wierd German word ) just means that once the dealer goes through a process to diagnose MDCT issues, they need to submit a PUMA case to the TeileClearing (TC) specialist who will review the issue and authorize repairs. BMW is attempting to centralize issue reporting to root cause MDCT issues (a very good thing).

As of June 2, 2008, any transmission or mechatronic module needs a Part Replacement Authorization before replacement or the dealer will be out on the limb for compensation.

It is interesting to note that BMW uses an example of a TC request...."DCT fails to shift into 2nd gear"....seems our friends at BMW are aware of the shifting issues that we have seen here.

SI B28 03 08 - BMW spends a long memo on how the MDCT fluid doesn't need to be serviced and how there is a shortage and that it is a long service fluid.....and then gives the procedure to replace it

They again reinforce the need to use the right fluid or the whole gearbox, cooler and lines need replacement.

Hmm.... seems like BMW is warming up to the idea of changing fluid to address some issues.

SI B28 04 08 - MDCT Transmission replacement procedure. BMW again takes great lengths to ensure proper fluid is used. The BMW MDCT transmission model # is GS7D36SG.

It is easy to knock BMW for having some problems...guess what all new technologies have teething issues.

I love BMW because they are addressing the issues systematically.

See where they are with your case.
  • The dealer has to go through some specific procedures
  • Then a PUMA and the TeileClearing (TC) rep / regional engineer needs to get contacted
Ultimately you will need the dealer to escalate and get approval to replace parts.
