I'm digging this one up again as I recently drove a Maserati Grand Turismo and the over run sound was amazing. Not as loud as an F-type but still great.
I Pulled this up on the F-type "Jaguar engineers achieved this by defying convention. "Usually you’d cut the fuel to the cylinders, when the driver lifts off the accelerator," explained Andrew Lowis, the Gasoline Calibration Manager for the car. "We are delaying the point when we do that and igniting later than we might in normal circumstances. It produces a controlled misfire."" I'd Love to see if any tuner could do this for the M3. |

Audi does it with with the RS5. They inject extra fuel to get that pop between shifts.

Go up to 5000rpm, release the throttle completely, and then reload the engine by immediately pressing the throttle (as little as possible) - they would burble and pop whilst doing this from any rpm, all the way down to near idle rpm. I too fell in love with this to the point that this way of decelerating became second nature! I don't know if this can be done with the E92 M3 - as mine is still pretty much stock... awaiting a full akrapovic evolution exhaust from Hendrik at Baan Velgen, so I guess I can report back soon.. |

great idea, this is something that I've been looking for. Love that sound on overrun; My 335i had that back pop/gurgle on decel or anytime the throttle plate closed, sounded pretty good.
