Software update

Brought my 2013 M3 in dealer for some minor issues and they told me I had out dated software. It was built last June that's almost as bad as iPhone software.

, anyone else been told this by there dealers

Were they more specific about what was out-of-date? You're well within warranty obviously so it's unlikely they're trying to squeeze money out of you if it's related to your issues. It's reasonable to believe there are other updates that may continue to happen, even though it's unlikely.

They say the "whole software" and that they can't do adaptations or anything to the DCT. They wanted to do the update but held off as we got a road trip. And that sometimes when they do the update it crashes so the couple days to get a new module. So going to put off till I get more info

2013 shouldn't be out of date...

It's possible that they were referring to the combox Bluetooth update which can be uploaded via usb stick. I've seen a few later cars without this update from the factory, but the base software is still current.

2013 Model but built on June 2012 or 2013 Model built June 2013. I think it was built last June 2012. So it is possible for outdated software.

God help us all if BMW software becomes as update-demanding as Microsoft or Apple software.

Imagine getting ready to go for a short drive, put your car in gear, and something on the display pops up with the little triangle and:

"Internet Upgrade
Required
Before Driving"

Just wait....

DCT software is available and will improve the characteristics tremendously. If they want even a penny for the update, go aftermarket with performance software.

If it was built in last June then it won't be 2013 model.

Would this Bluetooth update be the reason why my iphone 5 can connect with music and phone calls but won't show recent calls or dialed calls??

It is possible for June built for next year model. Even if the car was built June 1, 2013, it is highly unlikely he got the car delivered this week or next week.

We've seen it on new models before. Once plugged in, we can see what specific modules are calling for the update and if it is essential or not.

Im confident my car is a 2013 but thanks for the knowledge. Ordered it while I was stationed in Germany before I rotated back last July. Car was completed actually 2 week of July couple days before I flew home last year

This is what the serive manager called me about the other day. It is a DCT upgrade. No cost to me so good news there

When I took my car for an oil change last weekend, the tech told me they were doing DCT software updates (mine is a 6MT so did not apply) and the tech said the rev match was being removed when downshifting.

I am just repeating what the tech said, if someone can confirm this, then we are golden. I personally would not do the update if this was true.

Same thing mine told me. Will improve DCT operation is what they are claimimg
