335i is fine unless you are a hard core racer. If so then go for the M3. I have no idea what that other guy is talking about but if you are spending 500 dollars a month on gas then your M3 is fucked or you live in Nevada and work in LA. Even the 335is is too much money and not enough gain for the street. I guess it depends what you are going to do with it. You would be surprised with even a 328. Test drive all three and see what you think.

didn't read all of it, but i think you should look into getting a used 335i that has warranty
It's already taken a big depreciation hit. Use it for until the warranty is out

Sadly, in today's world, you can buy both. But neither is as good as natural endowments. We could get into a whole discussion about natural (aspirated) versus (turbo) boosted features, but that might be beyond the scope of this thread.

That depends solely on your state, your age and your driving record. My M3's insurance through State Farm is CHEAP! I pay $150 a month for both my E9X M3 AND my Ducati 848 (..and that is with coverage that exceeds California's state mandated minumums and does not include a law enforcement discount). My M3 also has GAP insurance through BMWFS. |

In all honesty, I can come up with a million reasons why I am content with my 335is. It's good lookin, quick, etc. But it isn't an M3. Clearly. It's a 335is. The M3 is a higher performing car in every measurable category. If money isn't really a constraint, why wouldn't you get it? I see plenty of girls and geeky dudes who daily drive M3s and you can't even begin to convince me that they wring out every ounce of performance in that car once or ever. So that's a weak argument against getting it. Even my mom clowned me for getting the IS. She goes "no one even knows what your car is. You shoulda gotten the M3." "Thanks mom*slits wrists*" |

Perhaps... Although as an M3 owner, I would hate life having to ever go back to a 335 of any sort.

I agree! In the past I've downgraded twice: '03 M3 to an '04 G35 and an '05 ZCP M3 to an '06 330i. Never again! I hated life.... ...but that damned Topaz Blue 330i achieved stellar gas mileage. I drove to Vegas and back and STILL had gas remaining in the tank. IMPRESSIVE! |

What ever is wrong with your 335is? I still have my first ever 535is in fact I just replaced some vitals on her ... we love her great little car it is.

Why ever would you say that? makes no sense at all unless you have a milage for such extravagant fuel consumption estimate/statement

i am in the same dilemma OP. I keep going back and forth: 335is or M3. I've been a lurker on this forum for too long. I always read what people has to say negatively and positively.
I can say this, most M3 owners don't have that much complaints than the 335ers'. But then again, that doesn't mean that some do complain. However, my biggest issue is, the next generation M3 is coming out, and I really wanted a 4 door vs. 2 door coupe. The E9X 4 door M3 is out of production. And what you find at the dealers are fully loaded ones. I can live without many options. To most, fuel economy is an issue. To me, it is not. I do have a D.D. MkV jetta. It does what it does, and it isn't harsh on the ride. Payment wise this is an not issue. I can afford both vehicles. Plus, I am still paying for the MKV jetta-but the payment is low and i only owe 7k on it. However, if I would to wait for the next generation M3, then I would rather choose 335is, and have fun with it, and then get a 4 door M3. Maybe it makes sense, maybe it doesn't. I always wanted a "fun weekend" car. The jetta doesn't have the power, the handling nor the braking to do so. It is a good car to drive around town, and FWY, but it is not an aggressive vehicle. In the end, see what's going to make you happy. I say, if you are an amateur driver, than skip the M3. M3 requires an aggressive driver with some driving skills. 335is can be both; which what I like about it. Plus, the 335is is not a bad car around town. Has the power, the braking and the handling, and it is capable to function as a true "sport" car. I hope I am making sense. Last edited by positiveions; 10-11-2011 at 03:48 PM.. |
