Wanna hear a great story?

So it was raining (and by raining I mean cats and dogs) today...I had to go do a photoshoot, but the car was parked outside, and I didn't want to get my gear wet. No problem, I'll just pull the car into the garage.

Well, I was in a bit of a hurry, and set my bags down off to the side. Except, it turns out, one of them tipped over.

So, I just ran over and utterly destroyed my brand new Macbook Pro and brand spanking new 70-200 f/4L.

I punched a hole in the garage wall and screamed fuck enough times to wake the dead.

What would your reaction have been?

...oh, and to make it even better, I haven't backed up my hard drive in about a month...and I've taken well over 2,000 pictures since then.

Homeowner's Insurance will cover it because it happened inside the house. I talked to the agent about an hour after I did it.

Yeh. I've got really good insurance. But I'll be adding it on my lenses and stuff now too.

as far as your hard drive goes...

theres a decent chance you didnt smash it to bits...and even if you did, you can recover that data...

dig that HD out!!

I plan on it. Believe you me. That stuff is more important to me than the computer or lens.

If you aren't backing up your HD data daily on a 2nd and even 3rd drive, your data can't be that important. I have 3 backups of my important data and daily backups of everything else. It's even more important with a laptop since it can easily be lost/stolen.

Trusting that your hard drive won't fail is like leaving your keys in your car and hoping it never gets stolen.

Good thing you've got insurance on it, though!

If the data is extremely important to you, I remember seeing on TV a lab that specializes in data recovery in the most extreme cases of HD failure, but no doubt - it's an expensive service.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Plug the hole you punched in the wall with the camera, then duct tape the macbook over that to conceal it. That should mend the hole, at least until you can get it properly repaired.

The computer still runs (somehow) but the monitor is destroyed. I only beat up half of it, and I'm hoping the HD is on the good half. I immediately shut it off to prevent it from spinning itself to death.

My fingers are crossed.

I've already got time capsule set up, I've just been lazy lately. I'm not at home much and neither is my laptop. It's a mistake I've made before.

In a continuation of this saga, my younger sister threw away both of my ipod touches and a pair of Shure SE210s on Thursday. Trash day was yesterday. I found out today.
