Rod Bearings out of Heavily Track 2011 E92 M3
Hey guys here are the pics of the bearings out of my heavily e92 M3. Roughly 8,000 track miles and 20,000 Street miles, so 28,000 on motor. Regular oil changes with castrol 10w60 then switched to Motul 300v 15w50 once no longer on the street. thought they looked better than I expected.

Is that pitting on the bearings? Or is it just dirty?

Please share these in the new Rod Bearing photo thread I made if you get a chance!
Those look pretty bad for 28,000! Thanks

Looks like lots of debris grooves and pitting. What'd you replace them with?

Those looked like mine which were 32k miles all supercharged and a lot of track and airstrip miles.

Maybe groove isn't the right word since these bearings aren't lead and probably didn't groove, but this picture clearly shows debris streaks. Regarding the other marks, I guess if you can't feel them they're not pits, but they're something

I've wondered if the design of the oem filter contributes to the rod bearing issue. It seems that with the bumpiness of a ride, it is easy for the filter to move around and allow debris through at the point where it is only pushed against the elbow.

It would be scouring your cylinder walls if it was getting past the three rings and into the oil. That would lead to increased oil consumption as the oil becomes able to get past the rings and into the chamber, and smokier exhaust.

The new bearings don't show the layers like the original bearings. I don't recall seeing newer bearings look beat to sh!t like the copper ones, but the new engines still blow.
Thanks for the pics. Just not sure what to think of them.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

These bearings are the newer bimetal bearings. They look in real bad shape. Pitting, particle streaks, and uneven wear are the signs that these are in real bad shape.
