Rematch Run: ESS VT2 625 M3 vs Built Z06

This is my roll-on run against the Shift-S3ctor Z06 at the back straight at Big Willow. Same car that ran me dead even at the Coalinga Airstrip Attack.

The Z06 recently installed long tube headers and as you can see, made a nice difference!

Conditions were interesting...very cold ~ 30 deg F so I was running with MDM on...which helped with traction on the initial hit but caused a delay in all the upshifts. Traction control light was flickering until after the 3-4 upshift

Not sure if the Z was spinning a bit but is very possible given the conditions.

The Z is definitely quicker now and I will need another mod or two (or more) to keep up!

What size tires are you running out back? Are you catted or no? Time for an ESS-VT650?

Much more in line what I would expect than the videos from the last airstrip event. Nice run, both cars sound great.

What's up Jimmy...actually I didn't know this but I was sent the 625 kit as I placed the order right as ESS was making the changes that you now see on their website. Found this out as I was corresponding with Roman later on

Yeah fully catless (MRF X Pipe). Tires: Michelin PSS 275's. I couldn't have been running 315's and i would have still be spinning given how cold it was that day.

I have some future mods planned

Thx. He's making a bunch more power now though. I want to do a 3rd gear 70 mph roll on with Ryan at the next event with traction control completely turned off...so that's both have traction. Based on what happened, it's going to be much closer but I still think the Z will have the edge (as least until I start my next phase of modding )

Did you by chance run any GTR's while you were out there?

Sweet video, thanks

Agreed, they are unreal, like this one, modded by the same company (Cunningham Motorsports) - I'd say it's just a bit more than 700chp though.

FWIW this 640whp Z06 was just about even, but slightly edged out the 730whp Ford GT that I ran about even with in my ESS VT3.

You did great out there Adam. Also Ryan's Z pulled on a VT650 at the Trona event, so you're car is over achieving IMHO. FWIW he didn't pick up much WHP with the headers, but he did pick up a ton in the TQ department and a much better curve in the mid range, hence the different outcome, but I know your MDM can slow you down a bit.

I think you might be a bit disappointed if you race him starting in third man... S6 isn't gonna be nearly enough help starting in that gear. At least from all the passed videos I've seen. Good luck though

Thanks for posting the vid adam, great run. For the record, my car dyno'd 533whp/507 tq (before the headers was 529whp/481tq).

Mods are intake, mild CMS cam, pfadt long tube headers (catless), and a tune.

Your car is FAST no doubt!

Z06 is pretty quick. Can't win them all, win some lose some, at least you posted the vid some people only post their wins. Now you just have to 1up.

We were all mesmerized listening to your car on the straight between turn 9 and turn 1. It sounds so f***ing awesome Ryan. The headers seemed to transform your car in a number of ways!

Since you beat me, I've been jones'ing for another engine mod. Just spoke with Roman and we are working on some stuff that should be ready for the Spring Airstrip Event. Hopefully we will get a chance for another run

Yeah bang-for-the-buck, we have a hard time matching the Z's. 530/500 WHP/TQ and 3,200 LBS and terrific traction make it very hard for even the most powerful S/C e9X M3's to stand a chance.

I kind of thought the car was yours once I saw it was black.

I was about to ask... Good thing I read a few more posts.

Same dyno?

Two for you. The C6 Z06 is a borderline budget-supercar and the combination of relatively low curb weight (~400lbs less than an E9X M3) with a stonking motor (LS7!!) is a wicked combo. If I wasn't so taken by the M3's practicality and overall useability I would likely own a Z06. Sure the interior is a bit low-rent and overall levels of refinement aren't ultra high but for under $80k new for this kind of performance something has to give. If you need the slick interior and more cachet spend 2x the price on a 997TT or GT3.

Hopefully my ESS VT2-650 DCT M3 will fend off most mild Z06s
