So based on this I am, as a DCT owner:

not an artist
boring
thumb twidler
lesbian trapped in a man's body
race car driver

P.S. based on these comments by the MT guys, they must really feel emasculated because they get so offensive to defend their decision, or, more likely they are 12 M3 pre-teen wannabees.

The real problem.... Find a wife like mine that can drive a MT perfectly.

Still bought DCT.

I went with the DCT. My last manual was a '98 Integra GSR and I loved it, but increased traffic in the Northeast makes having an automatic option (and with the DCT it is only an option you can manually shift faster and better than most people can manually with a 6 speed if we're really being honest with ourselves) very helpful and reduces my fatigue on a long trip.

As far as it being boring, the shift motion on the DCT is basically the same if using the shifter...just no clutch and no loss of acceleration when shifting. Of course this is all IMHO.

My wife drives MT very well too. Don't need a DCT for her. My only complaint is that she doesn't rev the piss out of the motor before every upshift. Maybe its a guy thing...

DCT. I love the throttle blip when it downshifts.

DCT b/c I was having hard time finding 6MT and I got bored looking.

I know DCT is faster, shifts quicker, blah, blah, blah but I find it boring on the streets and that's where I currently spend my time. I'm sure on the track I'd prefer a DCT.

Am in the market to replace my M3 with a P-car and it will definitely be a manual. I'll have the rest of my lift to drive a DCT/PDK/F1, window for a MT is closing.

Felt like the DCT matched the character of the M3 greater than the manual box. I still have two manual cars I can jump in when I get the itch, so I wasn't worried about getting bored with the DCT either.

Three years later, no boredom, no problems, no regrets.

Just drive both and pick the one you like most! You really can't go wrong.

Still like driving manuals. Have a PDK as well. Nice to drive both types of gear boxes.

I think all the "for the wife" excuses further backs up the previous poster's reason of "because I'm a man."

Why? There's no substitute for the greater driving enjoyment I derive from an MT.

for me it was cost and what was available in the market at that time. When I was buying it, there weren't many DCT sedans out there, and they were a lot more expensive at that time. Today, DCT cars are marginally expensive than 6MT and just as common, if not more...

I could have gone either way to be honest.

I don't understand the appeal of getting an automatic so your wife can drive your sports car. Surely the better option would be to get your wife driving lessons?*

*My wife already knows how to drive stick... so no lessons were required.

I'm qualified to drive 6 spd MT because I'm a well conditioned athlete with world class hand eye coordination.

This topic is 100% personal preference. I really don't believe there is a 'right' answer -- sure, the argument can be made that a DCT is technically superior (and it is), but some of us grew up on MT, and our love of rowing the gears is just die hard.

Personally, I test-drove the DCT, and also an ESS-VT2 tuned DCT, before settling on my 6MT E92. To me, tapping a button to shift is just too anti-climactic vs the rush of stomping on the clutch and throwing it into the next gear before stomping on the gas! But I do not begrudge all the good reasons people get DCT (such as wife, gf, or whatever). To each his own!

DCT

So I can have one hand free to smack the kids in the back seat if need be.
I'm also shit at fast gear changes so the DCT works for me.
