Need advice on getting a M3
Currently also looking at a 2013 E92 M3. Saw one at BMW dealership thats done 45k. Certified inspection from BMW but without extended warranty. Has all the options and DCT. Asking for 53k. First time purchasing a BMW so Im wondering if it is over priced? Also debating on whether I should change the rod bearing if I purchase it. Is there anything I should watch for even if it is inspected from BMW? Thanks in advance.

E90M3 - What to look for? http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1343356
That will answer most of your questions. Second, compare what similar year/mileage/options cars go for and you'll see what it's worth to you. There's no magic market value number for every E92 M3.

53 K is a lot of coin, especially without warranty.
Rod bearings are not on the top of the list for a low mileage car. Throttle actuator will fail, mine did under warranty(80k), over a grand each plus labour. I am thinking patience might be a better option. Your getting close to used F10 M5 money there, with warranty... |

Agreed. 53k is too much for an older gen M3. You may be better off paying another 10 to 15k for a 2015 M4. Also I don't think there's much difference between a 2011 and 2013. Go for a 2011 for around 40k.

Buy all parts from FCP Euro as they provide a lifetime warranty on everything they sell. OP: $53k is way too much without warranty. Keep looking. |

Go for a 2011 supercharged M3 from one of the forum members here in the for sale threads. If Not supercharged then you can still get a nicely modded and well taken care of 2011 M3 for $40k or less and also from a forum member here. Good luck, tons of cars to choose from out there.

I don't know where you're from (I'm on mobile site) but here in Vancouver, $53k for a 2013 is not too much especially if it's a 6MT. It seems as though the manuals are asking more than the DCT's but I don't think $53k is too much for a 2013 at all whether it's DCT or manual.

08s (Aside from idrive) - 2013s are essentially the same. $50k+ for an E9X is insane.

Hardly. If you want a late model year car for lower mileage/option reasons (ie. ZCP), then that's the market price you're playing with around the GTA.

Thanks for the reply. I am in GTA. Went for test drive yesterday. I drove a m3 once before, but I did not get to push it at all. I did this time, and discovered the uniqueness of DCT. Due to unfamiliarity and probably not ideal settings, the car was super jerky in 1st gear manual. Automatic mode is also not as smooth as torque converter automatics that I am used to. I was disappointed at first as E92 m3 is my dream car. But reflecting on that, I guess I just need to learn how to drive a DCT.

I was expecting to love the engine at high revs, and I do, but I was not expecting to like the engine at mid-range revs as much as I do! It really grew on me. 53k seems to be market for 2013 m3s in Toronto, If they have lower kms. Certainly not a shockingly bad price. If looking at an earlier model, go for 2012 or a late 2011. They made a series of changes mid-2011 that included things like the ability to stream music via Bluetooth, always having m drive, etc. Low mileage updated 2011s can be had for mid-40s in TO. |

I agree $50k for a 2013 seems reasonable to me. No matter which one you get, you won't regret it, it's a fantastic car. The DCT will take a little getting used to, but as one other poster said, you will come to love it. |

What something is worth is,of course, the decision of the purchaser. You never mentioned the mileage, which is a key factor or what options the car has or is missing. I also agree that buyers expect to get these cars for cheap cheap, and I think they're the best M cars ever and the last of the real M car. It's so different from the rest of the line up and that V8 is the best! I'm seeing people trying to sell old E36 M3's for 18 g's; had one, it wasn't THAT great...but that's up to the purchaser! I've rowed gears for a long time and that DCT is damn awesome! It's a whole dimension of fun that I wouldn't change for the manual. I know the purists will yak on about 'feel' and the zen experience, but been there and done that, the DCT is better takes the car to whole other dimension of fun. Best of luck, let us know what happens! |

I paid 61k in Calgary for a '13 zcp in individual Santorini blue with only 17k kms and full extended CPO until august 2019 back in sept of 2016. You're right for another 5-7k I could've been in a higher mileage m4 but just couldn't pass up such a unique beautiful m3

I've bought and sold two already. People overprice theirs, they don't realize how bad M3's tank in value after a few years unless they are already at the bottom of the market.

Speaks the truth... the current M3 prices are ridiculous. Not only the E9x generation but the E46 also.
