how does your hood line up?

Ever since I picked up my car I have noticed that the hood dosent line up all to well. It seems to stick out a bit over the front bumper. Not to much but a good 1/4 inch. I stoped by the dealers the other day and was checking out their showroom models and they seem to be the same. Anyone else notice this? Has anyone tried adjusting their hoods to fit smoothly? I think I will try at this this weekend.

When I picked up my M3 from the dealer, I noticed that the hood was raised on one side about 1/4 inch. They forgot to take out the spacers on the driver's side. Could this be the problem you are having?

Nope the hood actually sticks out forward from the front of the car. It looks like it needs to be adjusted back. the front bumper is not flush with it.

I am going to see what I can do this weekend and take photo's. will try to post them by monday.

Oh, my hood didn't protrude beyond the front bumper. It was raised above the fenders.

i noticed this after i replaced my stock chrome grills with the matt black ones.

however, you can adjust the bumpers up and out to reduce the protrusion and "misalignment" of the hood. since the bumper and fenders are flexible, fiddling with the screws that hold them in place will enable you to position them to minimise the visual disparity between them and the hood.

cheers

Maybe thats how its suppose to look? It does bother me a bit that the grille is a bit receded.

The weird bit is where the bonnet (okay, hood) meets the front bumper. It kinda looks open.

mantis I don't get your post???!!!

this is what i meant.

at item 18 (and the corresponding three holes), there is around 1 cm of adjustment room for you to fine tune the alignment of the bumper/hood.

mrrm3 - sorry but i don't have the part number but will try and locate it for you.

cheers

I was going to start a thread about this. Mine does the same thing. I thought it was a defect. I don't know the reasoning why but the hood just does not sit correctly. Even the crappiest car manufacturers don't seem to have this problem. So I have to believe it is purposeful.

Maybe it's to cover that small opening between the hood and grills/headlights so that there's no lift when going 150+mph.

---I'm probably wrong---

I have seen quite a few with an 'overbite' so far although it doesn't bother me too much since all of the other panels seem to be consistent. If anything, I would definitely try to make the adjustment to the front fascia as others have recommended, and not the hood.

Mine doesn't have much of an over-bite.

Also, another thing to keep in mind. When you close the hood you really need to slam it down. If you don't, it'll stick up a bit. And sometimes one side will end up lower than the other side. Pisses me off, but you just have to deal with it.
I thought something was wrong with mine but I have the same exact problems even closing the hood. This is total BS

I feel like driving over to BMW Designworks nearby here and asking them why that is. The M3 had to have a new hood designed. You would figure that if they already started seeing this as a flaw in the regular e92s that they would have corrected it for the M3 hood mold/press.

Honestly, when my car was being unloaded from the transport I thought that it had a head on incident with something.
