Thanks for those comparison pics! That really helped put things in perspective.

I didn't vote because my opinion wasn't one of the available options. I don't think the E90 looks "old" per se, but it does make one look at the E90 is a different light.

The E92 just makes the E90 look less aggressive, more subdued. But I feel like that's what the difference is SUPPOSED to be. After all, we are talking about a coupe vs. sedan. The E90 is still a nice car, but the pics that used to make the E90 look aggressive pale in comparison to the sleek E92.

Also, seeing what the taillights could look like on a 3, the tails on the E90 just look bad. Almost toyish. Blacklines are a MUST for the E90 IMO whereas the E92 tails need nothing.

both very nice cars and thx for the comparison pics.

im still edging out towards the e92 but will reserve final judgment till i see it in person. Also i wanna see the 335i in a m sport package before i make final judgments.

Both cars are great! I've been lurking for awhile and felt I had to chime in here with my $0.02. I'm moving to the US next year so I'm kind of doing some research on a car purchase. It was to be IS350 till I looked more specifically at the 3-series. I don't need 4 doors, so I'll probably end up with the coupe.

Both cars appeal to different buyers. The sedan is a bit more angular and aggressive looking while the coupe looks sleeker and curvier. They are just different and design-wise, neither one seems outdated if we don't take into consideration the new stuff on the coupe (eg. LED rears, paddle shifters etc).

Looking at potentials, there'll be tons of aftermarket stuff for both cars and I think that the real question is what you choose to enhance the looks even more.

Looking at the pics, the coupe represents a sports car whereas the sedan represents a family-ish car (obviously!). The coupe has the newer look, and also it's better looking and i'm not saying it cos it's a two doorer but it's got the right lines all over.

The more i look at the coupe the more i see an Astin Martin rear in it. The over all car has a touch of merc coupe also...

ya definetly, its not as tough looking as the e46's and its more sleek like the current clk's which are nice cars but too small and not wide enough.

I like the coupe overall. I did not really dig the E90's rear lights...made the end look to box-like to me. I put on blacklines and I think it made a huge difference. The car looks more sleek...horizontal to my eyes. The coupe's rear lights...make the car look sleek already.

I like the coupe's headlights...kind of a mix of 3 and 5 series. However...sux that the angels do not light up all the way around. I prefer the E90 angels...but that damn amber reflector just looks even worse to me. They stick out like a sore thumb. I really need to get those clears sometime soon.

Well, rumors are floating around that BMW is giving the coupe more aggressive suspension tuning and steering than the sedan (whereas they were always more or less identical in the past). This would make it a sportier drive - and thus really cause me to reconsider. It's really the side and rear profile shots of the E92 that are making me weak in the knees. I actually like the E90's front end (as a whole) more.

I normally do prefer sedans for the reasons I've mentioned time and time again (more for less), but there are a couple of design traits on the E90 which bother me: namely the amber headlight eyebrows and the "lipstick" front grille. If BMW were to ditch the grille (I've seen spyshots of the M3 sedan with a coupe grille - maybe there's a small facelift in the works?) and move the reflectors to a place where we could remove, repaint, or replace them, I'd probably have a hard time deciding.

As a 6er owner I was looking for styling cues that insure differentiation from my car as well as looking for the things that would allow me to recommend the 3er (Cabrio when it comes) to my wife to replace her Audi Cabrio. I believe BMW has done excellent on both. I have included a few 6er shots for comparison. These are not the best shots (shadows and the like) but I believe u can use to compare and contrast easily.

The 645 is such a nice car, drove one the other day (step) and it made me forget about wanting a manual...so damn responsive and feels weightless.

Now that the 6er is in the pic, i think the e92 looks very good, and don't ask me why lol!!

I think coupes look sportier than sedans as the E92 looks sportier than the E90. I am still happy with the E90....besides who wants to lift the front seat up everytime you have more than 1 passenger?

i think the e92 looks dated.

It looks so much like the old Mazda 626 and the old Lexus SC coupe.

I like the grill/hood on the E92, more traditional twin-kidney, not a Buick-mimic like the chrome top vertical strip on the E90. On the E92 I do not like the headlight cluster as well as the E90 (euro version), and I definitely do not like the crease running down from the headlight on the E92 -- as pointed out and beautifully p-shopped out by someone on this list when the first unofficial-official photos were leaked. But basically both are fine Dutch designs, and do not go overboard, sticking to freude am fahren.

I think this is the new strategy - to differentiate the coupe from the sedan in both subtle and obvious ways. Neither one looks dated IMO. They just look a little different - have their own identity - which is the whole idea. It will be interesting to see what the 335i sedan and new M3 sedan will look like.

Not really. Now that the coupe is out, E46 coupe looks out-dated.
who started this stupid poll. E92 is the new 3s coupe. E90 is the new 3s sedan.

I checked no, but I my answer would be more accurately stated as no - I think they both look modern but I prefer the look of the e90.

When I decided to look for a new vehicle I considered everything from SUVs and trucks to sedans. I settled on gettting a car and wanted to initially get a coupe. I considered the Accord and Solara - then moved to sports sedans - G35, IS, and e90. It initially gave me pause when I first saw the e92, but all things considered, the better value and the one that had more appeal to me is the e90.

I agree, not feeling it at all from the pics. But who knows how it will look on the showroom floor. I'm quite sure I want the sedan over the coupe. Hell I think my coupe looks better!

My car would be "ugly" if I was to swap the wheels to a different BMW wheel. I am hoping BMW brings a different package to the market with a great wheel design that ties everything together and makes you forget how bad the rear trunk design is.
What he said.
