Kay Segler out - Friedrich Nitschke now in charge of M

Yes, it's already posted here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=509820

But I figured this news would probably have been missed among all the other exciting M vehicles being revealed today.

Opinion? Did they realize Kay was not the man? Or was it simply that the guy they had running Mini was underperforming? Either way, this may lead to different directions for M. No, the move to turbos, trucks and souped-up series engines probably won't be rethought any time soon. But maybe we'll at least have an M Division that doesn't feel so much like it is being run merely as a series marketing campaigns.

Anyway, a warm welcome to Nitschke.

I've been thinking about "M division's direction"... How much say M division has? I bet they do whatever BMW tells them to do.

Doesnt make any sense. Why would a guy who was on the desin team at mini be chosen to run the high performance M division? There is minmal "design" at the M point in building. It is all the stuff underneath the design that is changed

Also why would they take the head of M seiglar and put him in charge of marketing at mini.

You guys are insane if you believe this. Makes abolutely no sense

Um, he used to run Mini before running M, birdbrain!

And you and some forum members I've notice are all kinds of paranoid today. Everything must be a joke today, right? Even things that have absolutely no humorous undertone, and would be some the dumbest April fools jokes ever, must nevertheless be jokes.

Hey did you guys see the pics from BMW's M Event? Oh wait a minute I forgot that event can't possibly be real because it is April 1st. The whole thing is an obvious ruse.

They confirmed it in the M Power World with a short 1-liner. Doesn't look like a joke to me. Sad to see the man go. His "reign" will be remembered for the GTS and for the 1M. We'll see what follows.

So, the philosopher who dreamed up Zarathustra, which was later utilized by Blavatsky, Hitler's mentors, and ultimately the Nazi's to formalize their theories about the Jews and a superior race is now in charge of M?

Not to make light of it, but I would think this would spell the end of the X5M, etc.--the SUV being a disease that threatens the M pure blood.

Nietzsche => Nitschke? or, does this Nitschke guy actually exist?

Actually, Nitschke is more in line with former football player Ray Nitschke. This way he can "tackle" his new job with enthousiasm and bring back M to its senses.

Dr. Kay Segler out on May 1st...!

Alright boys and girls,
This may be a repost but I really don't care.
If you haven't heard the good news: the current ///M Boss who killed the M brand, Dr. Kay Segler, has been reassigned to manage MINI and is being replaced by Dr. Friedrich Nitschke on May 1st.

I don't think so...

The ///M SUV's were already in the works before Kay. He pushed for the M1, something small and fun, and I personally applaud the idea. You can't put the trend/blame of BMW and as a result ///M on Kay. Wel'll see what the new guy does. You may be wishing for the old days of Kay in a few years.

This. Why blame the guy when it's worldwide fuel consumption requirements (e.g. CAFE) and CO2 limits, as well as customer demand (how many "what are you MPGs" threads have we seen on here) that have driven the M brand to go with FI.

He's actually done a lot of good things for M. 1M, M3 GTS, M3 sedan lightweight (maybe coupe as well), new M5, etc.

I am not sure why everyone is against FI.

More power, better MPG, more torque, faster...

I know people don't like change, but come on.

Turbos have turbo lag, turbos drop power before redline, turbos are less reliable and often more expensive than NA engines, and most importantly to me, turbos make the car's exhaust sound worse.

Turbo lag is almost none existent these days and I would never own any M engine out of warranty anyway. You can listen to my turbo exhaust pulling away from you when the new M3 comes out
