Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Order a new set of Super Sports which are being fitted, anyone had any experience of them as the reviews on the web are excellent.

Not the cheapest but who cares lol

Great tyres...I have them on the back and they give noticeably better traction and grip than PS2s.

Unless your car has serious understeer or you are a dumwit driver, fronts should last a very long time

Are you not running the same tyres on the rear axle?

When I bought my wheels over a year ago they came with the PZeros at my request... but one of them got a huge screw through the tyre wall and I needed to replace it quick as its my only car. At the time nobody had them in stock so I had to buy some Falkens which are actualy great especially when you drift or power slide

How long they've been on, is somewhat irrelevant, how many miles?

well super sports are now fitted and will report back when I get some mileage on them. Got a trackday coming up soon so will be interested to see how they perform. I'm expecting them to perform between the cups and the PS2's

Do they check your tires at the track before you get on it or something?

P.S. any suggestions on tracks near london, which one did you go to?

I am planning on doing a quick track day before I put on some rubber!

I think the point is he would have to drive to and from the track,

4 ilegal tires = 12 points = no driving for 6 months or more.

So how did they perform?
Significant difference over the PS2's?
Would like to hear your thoughts as I'm ordering these tires very soon!

Exactly the same here...and I agree completely. The difference over my old PS2s (not just at the end but over their lifetime) is huge - so much so, that I wonder if I had a bad set of PS2s...

Biggest difference is in wet weather where I can actually use the accelerator (quite a lot in fact) without going all Wild Bill and fishtailing everywhere. Was really a problem (a very amusing problem, admittedly) but now the back of the car is properly planted and I can drive with complete confidence in the rain.

ps. I think I paid £710 for the rears about 3 months ago, fitted, at home, from Event Tyres.

Very interesting post. Were the tyre pressures and suspension geometry consistent pre and post tyre changes? If so, I can only assume you did indeed have a faulty set of tyres and that would usually be part of a faulty batch. I run PS2 and even in wet conditions have massive drive out of corners.

I will change to PSS when the need arises.

The difference between the PS2 and the PSS is quite amazing really.

I'm running mine on the road with tyre pressures set as per the BMW guidelines for 2 people even though normally it's just me in the car. I used to have my PS2's quite high but i noticed that at the higher pressures on PSS the wear rate was not even across the tyre even giving it the large round a tight bend, i think the wall's are stiffer on PSS but the load ratings are the same 650Kg front 750 kg rear. On the road in the wet they are leaps ahead of PS2 and give much more confidence.

On track the PSS are definitely softer as the wear rate is higher but a noticeable increase in grip, not cup level but not far off. It took a while to get my pressures right as they kept getting too hot but once I got that sorted they are recommended.
