Last oil report. Pretty much identical, which I guess is a good thing. Now switched to Mobil1 0W-40 and will run it for 5k miles.

Ive ordered my kit earlier this week and will post after my track day and change. Doesnt bmw offer once a year free oil change? If my timing is correct i will have one free plus free every 15k miles

Just got mine today. Only been doing 15,000 mile oil intervals. This makes me wonder if I should shorten the interval to 7500 at all

Received my oil report today. After 4000 km on the oil and nine months later, viscosity at both 40c and 100c is lower than specified by Castrol in their whitepaper. Disregard the reports comments on viscosity. Apart from that, it's all good.

Are you being sarcastic? The report says that even at 15k miles your oil looks great and they suggest running even longer.

Because your copper level is above average, that's why. I never pay attention to what they say about extending the oil mileage.

Yea that lead is a little high for sure. IMHO, I'd shorten the interval to 5k and send a sample again and see what the levels are. If it goes up (copper too), then it's time to save for a rod bearing job unfortunately.

Do tell...I'm just curious how copper level's lead to a good/bad report. Thanks

I'm not a pro by any means, but from what I've read here, the rod bearings are coated with lead and copper.

If the rod bearing is really worn down like int he picture, it'll show up as high copper level. If you look to the left, that other set is also worn, but not all the way down to the copper yet.

In summary, usually lead and copper should go hand in hand if you have rod bearing issues. But if the copper is way high, then you really are in the critical area.

I'd recommend either going to a lighter oil, or if you want to stick to TWS for warranty reasons, lower interval to 7500mi. Just keep doing the lab tests and keep an eye out on those 2 items.

Here's mine for the record:

70k miles on the car
Just over 7k on a supercharger
5500 between the oil change

Disregard the 9qts of make-up oil.

Took a trip from El Paso to Vegas and back for MFEST. Did the track day there and a couple autox events on this oil.

Here is mine. I guess I'll just watch it and have another report in 5000 miles. I just switched to 0w-40 also.

My first UOA report. Changed the oil ~7000 miles after I bought the car, so I'm unsure exactly how many miles were on this batch. Dealer said last oil service reported was at 40,372, so there might actually be nearly 12k on this batch.

Nice work! Is there one for copper levels too?

P.S. Who the hell had 80ppm at such low mileage? Wow!

Mtrois' 2008 M3 had 79ppm at 17K miles. In both graphs, his 5 reports are represented in Red.

Oh I remember that. I think that was because he added leaded fuel at the tracks though. Which would explain why it went down afterwards. But it looks like it crept back up again so that's not good...
