Okay, seriously WTF N54?

I was just looking at DLSJ5's numbers regarding his SC'd E9X M3..

I was like damn, mid 7's is amazingly fast.

Then, i ran upon this..

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=363076

6.95 60-130 on a 335i still running stock turbos.

Now don't get me wrong, yeah he did use NOS and meth but honestly, spending 13K for a SC kit and 4K for exhaust and etc. etc.

I am a little surprised at what those N54's can do.

Turbos are just easy and cheap to mod over a NA engine. i admire a NA engine and one that is tuned or modded more then a turbo. to each there own, but i could care less to own the 335 turbo no matter how fast it is. i love this NA engine in my M

na vs turbo and all that, regardless, i think the 335 is still a damn good car...and i think most agree.
it has great tuning potential.

Well of course.

Only thing that comes to mind for me is that the N54 is running HPF M3 times with stock turbos...

WTF. LOL.

That's quite amazing.

Can 335 show that level of performance for 30 minutes non-stop an a track? No. Does it have linear, predictable and instant throttle response? No, especially with higher performance tunes. Is turbo-charging going to be commonplace in next few years? Very likely...

Not true.

HPF stage 2.5 runs 5.61 sec 60-130mph. Over a full second faster (no nitrous).

Only one N54 is running these times. Hotrod's 335 has always been way ahead of any other N54 cars. Also his car will no longer run this time, because his tranny can't handle the power.

Yeah but if you are modding for power a turbo motor is a much better platform. "Oh but mine is NA" is not a valid excuse after losing.

I agree with you in some ways... I think supercharging the M3 is totally retarded. SO many better cars to start with if all you want is maximum power... and blowing up an S65 is incredibly more expensive compared to blowing up a domestic V8 or turbo'd import.

However, I gotta say that the $55-65k buys you other things besides straight line speed. And personally, modding isn't my thing. I like to leave things bone stock. The M3 is superior in so ways like chassis/suspension, interior seats/steering wheel/leather, and transmissions. The exterior looks like 10x better too with the aggressive fender flares and bumpers. The whole car is better than the 335i, but the 335i can obviously go much faster for fewer mod dollars. Not to mention actually having a limited slip differential from the factory. Just a better overall car... that's why it's more $$$.

That's my buddy Warren's 335I, it's always been very fast, I've seen it through all it's stages. His 6.95 run is blazing fast, his car was around 550whp with a fat curve all the way to redline during that run. Very impressive.

DING!

I've definitely come to accept the M3 not being the fastest car on the road and the capability of other cars kicking its a$$. However, I driven the 335i on several occasions. Prior to driving the M3, I could swear there was nothing better than the 335i and my argument was "why buy an M3 when I could save dollars and mod the 335i that will smoke it". Today, if I get smoked buy a modded 335i or anything equivalent, so what. The feel of the m3 is so special, it really just doesnt matter to me.
