Akrapovic and TQ dip
I'm trying to find out if there is a significant TQ dip with the Akra exhaust and why that is? That would be a negative aspect of a $5600 exhaust system. I was under the impression that there was a steady increase of HP and TQ throughout the RPM range.
Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks...

I will still claim its a myth until proven otherwise. Plus having driven manual M3 now, I am almost never below 2,500 RPM.

Its not that big off a deal. In traffic or pulling away from a stop light you wont really notice it. The reason for the dip is the lack of back pressure at the low end. The dip is not significant and you should not let that hold you back.

Very few existing dyno charts start at 2,000 RPM or below. Which you would need to do to catch a dip at 2,500 RPM...
I will look again, especially after the update... But, I have yet to see any definite proof. I will look even more once I get closer to plunking down $5K...

I haven't noticed any torque loss when my Akra Evo system was installed. But then again I had a software tune (ESS) put in at the same time which I think addresses this.

The ESS tune will address the torque loss. But like I said before it is such a little loss in the very low end that it is hardly noticeable

The dip exists, but after the rev-counter passes 3K RPM, the system makes solid gains from there right to redline. IMO the Akra is the best system available for an M3 even with the dip. |

Thanks for all the feedback. I understand why there would be a TQ dip due to loss of back pressure with the new exhaust. The question would be if that would be significant enough to be a problem. This exhaust is not cheap so this is valid concern for sure. The good thing is that the M3 is a high reving beast which excels at the higher RPMs. I also realize that there will be significant gains throughout the RPM range regardless of the TQ dip. I also find the weight reduction very appealing. Decisions, decisions...
Is the Dyno graph showing 280+ TQ or is it only 250? Thanks...

I appreciate all the good info. I'm fairly certain that I will get the Akra Evo once I get back regardless of the TQ dip. It seems that the dip/loss is insignificant compared to all the gains from the system, especially with the ESS tune.

I just recently had the Evo system installed and barely notice the torque dip at all and this is without any kind of software upgrade.
Have no regrets at all in purchasing the system. |

And to the OP, when you finally get an Akra exhaust, the packaging will really impress you...... You may not know what I mean now, but you will understand when you see the boxes and packaging this thing comes in. |

I had a Milltek exhaust with their 100cpi cats and centre pipes in my E46 M3. During hard accelaration from stand still you suddenly felt a "bog down" feeling before accelaration continued. Upon changing the exhaust to stock that effect went away. As pointed out in this thread earlier I think the torque dip is to do with the back pressure loss. My 2c.

I only notice it backing out of my driveway at my Lake Travis house. The driveway is very steep. Just got my ECU tuned by ESS, so hoping that fixes the issue, but won't know until I get home next Friday.
