For those who don't know how concepts work, this model is a preview of the next 5-series styling. The kamm back is just a styling exercise that the production model won't have, but the front half of the car is basically the next 5.

There is no way this thing would become a production car. There's a greater chance that the colors on the roundel will change than that happening.

As usual with most BMW "concept" cars, this one is pretty much green-lighted for production, and is close to what the production version will look like, both inside and out. Only minor details will change for actual production (wheels, exterior mirrors, etc.) This is less a "concept" car and is more of a "preview" car.

The car is slated to go on sale this fall in Europe.

The closest car in the current BMW lineup to this 5 Series Concept GT would probably be the X6, although BMW is takin gpains to emphasize the differences.

For one, it's not as high as the X5/X6 SAV, being just a bit higher than the normal 5 series sedan. Think of it as BMW's answer to the MB R Series, Chrysler Pacifica, or even Volvo XC70.

I have to admit, this is the first BMW in a while that I don't "get." I heard all the talk in the video about market research and "creating a new type of vehicle," but turning the classic, elegant BMW 3 box sedan silhouette into a raised, 2 box fastback doesn't make much sense to me.

This thing is going to hit dealerships by the end of the year. They really think there's a market for this car, unfortunately. Having said that, the new 5 series (which will borrow the front most likely, and..hopefully..less of the rear) will look pretty sweet judging by these pics.

Like it or not, it's going into production, and I'm pretty sure the exterior will look almost exactly the same.

Are you serious? The new E class sedan and coupe are HIDEOUS...... The C-Class is the only good looking car in the MB lineup right now.
