New Member and Hopefully New Owner - Couple ?s
Hey guys,
This is my first time posting here (joined a couple of days ago) and I just wanted to start out by asking what you guys thought about a deal that I have in the negotiation process for an '08 E92 M3. Here are some specs on the car It's an '08 E92 manual interlagos blue with 1,600 miles and has: Cold Weather Pkg Premium Pkg Tech Pkg Moonroof (blah) Enhanced Premium Sound 18 inch wheels (another blah) The internet price is around $56,000, but I talked them down to $50,500 out the door. The thing is, it was a demo car for a while. After expressing my concerns about it being a demo, they said that they never let a customer test drive it alone and over rev or do hard downshifts. They assured me it was in amazing condition (naturally). What do you guys think about this price? Should I just skip it all together because it was a demo for a little while? This would be my first BMW, btw. |

$50k after taxes?
For an e92, I think it's a great deal... even with 1200 miles... Quote:

Sounds like a great deal. All the break in stuff is probably overstated anyway. Porsche tests their cars on the autobahn right from the factory.
At least you don't have to break it in |

I got mine with about 220 miles of test drives on the clock. Everything is fine at 2200 so far. I think you should jump on that deal.
When I was younger, my friend's parents bought a demo car with 3000 miles on it (no BMW, it was an 87' Pontiac Bonneville.) I'm not sure if it was because it was a demo, but that car was abnomally fast. We raced another guy with the exact same engine/car and pulled like mad on him. That car ran great well into 200k miles. There is a school of thought that reaming it from mile 1 is the way to go for any engine. I'm not saying your engine was trashed the past 1200 miles, but if it touched redline a couple times, I think you're ok. Post pics if you get it! |

Thanks for the kind words. It's definitely a big purchase for a young guy (I'm 22 y.o.) so, I'd rather it be as close to new and unharmed as possible. What's the consensus on the 18" wheels? I'd rather have the 19", but man, I searched up and down on Auto Trader and Cars.com and berrily found any in my price range with the wheels and the colors that I want. |

Go for it man. It's still under warranty for 4 years and even though it's a demo..i'm pretty sure it would be hard to "break" one of these cars. Seems like a smokin hot deal

It kind of got me thinking. Does this deal seem too good to be true? I know it's a demo with 1600 miles on the clock, but, does $50,000 out the door seem too good of a deal? FWIW, I am trading in my current vehicle.

That's a great deal, even with those miles. Makes our similar deal on a demo with <300 miles look pitiful by comparison!
Just out of curiosity, have you already worked out the trade value? You mentioned you were trading your current car in, and this might be the only place this stellar deal could become simply really, really good. |

Dont worry about the miles, these cars are bulletproof. |

Before you buy have them pull the Type 1 and Type 2 over revs off the DME. If there are ANY Type 2 over revs walk away. A Type 2 is when someone shifts from 4th to 3rd instead of 4th to 5th. This is where you will see bent valves, rods, etc. It is not uncommon to see Type 1's, but if it is more than 10 again I would think about it. It would mean that the car had hit the fuel cutoff and been past redline more than 10 times since it was new.

I'm not too terribly worried about the miles. I doubt I will keep it past the warranty cut off anyway. The warranty ends June 2012, so, that gives me 3 full years with the car of worry free maintenance, repairs, etc. That will work for me!

I would do it.
Mine was almost the exact same way. I'm 27 and got an 08 Interlagos Blue E92 with 900 miles on it. It had been on their lot since June 08 and it was their demo and I finally took it Feb 4th I think. I ended getting about $12k off sticker after my trade-in and all. ($10k before trade) I had reservations at first about the mileage but really that's pretty small in how long you have it, plus everything is covered under the warranty for 4 years, including that, if someone did "drive it hard" it'll show up long before the warranty is out. I'd totaly go for it. In fact I was at a local BMWCCA event the other day and telling a member of how I got my car and when I mentioned the miles it had on it when I got it he just said "PFFFFT, That's nothing! And a hella of a steal" I'm kind of all over the place with this response, but my point is I think you did the right thing, got the price lower because of the high miles but I don't think that should stop you from getting.
