I am used to using R comps (on my E46 M3) but i thought a tire like the RS3 or RE11 would hold up for dual purpose use (street and track) and be a good compromise between a r comp and street tire.

I have a lot of track (50+ days) and racing experience (Skip Barber race series).

I haven't melted them but ad08s have chunked on me. I usually use nt01s now for dry days and still on ad08s for wet and street.

I ran titanium shims before on track in my previous car. They definitely help keeping the brake fluid from boiling over. As for actual cooling, they don't do anything. All they do is minimize heat transfer from the pads into the caliper/brake lines.

Also, the titanium shims keep the heat locked in the pad which makes the pad overheat faster. Normally without the shims, the caliper acts as a big heatsink. With the shims, it reduces this ability.

I prefer fluid fade to pad fade. Pad fade is less manageable in my experience, with fluid fade you get a long pedal but that's relatively easy to drive around, with pad fade too but can also go from stopping to basically zero friction in a hurry

I wouldn't use the Ti shims unless I knew my pads could take anything I can throw at them, which probably means a rotor that can move more air than the stock ones, my $0.02
