Why are (some) garages such lying rip offs?

A bit of rant and help needed.

Need to put the original OEM back box on my car and take out the Supersprint Race.

Went to Hi-Q and they wanted to charge me £80 + vat to undo
2 x clamps
2 x bolts
4 x rubber mounts

Which I know is a piss easy job and only took me and a friend like 20 minutes?

Seriously? :gunner:

The annoying part was he tried to make it sound like a complicated job saying
"you have to take the entire exhaust out from the manifold" and I was saying / thinking.

No you fucking don't! I tried to explain and even showed him the pictures I took on my phone to explain how easy it was.

So we went inside. He asked the boss, they originally said £50+vat and I was like - a bit much but never mind.
But then just as I was about to go, the boss asked the employee - "what car is it?" he said BMW M3.

Suddenly its £80 + vat. Err what de f***?

It's the m3 tax mate, it's pretty annoying but just find another place

Hope you get something sorted.

It's called overhead. Sure I can do it in my home garage for you for $20, but I don't have additional rent & utilities to pay for that. I pay them whether or not you pay me to do work because it's my home.

I think it's more the fact the price went up when the boss was told it's a BMW.

^ that's the thing.

Called quite a few more places and the majority of the answer was
"sorry we don't do this" or "we can't do it".

WHAT IN THE %^£()$(@)*@!

Eventually found a place in a different city who did it for £40.

It's time for a change.

Hopefully go through *fingers crossed*

That's called increased cost of liability.

I'll change the clutch on your honda for $800, but I'll charge you $5k for your Ferrari. Why? Because if I fuck something up on that ferrari, it's gonna cost a hell of a lot more to repair. Just like insurance.

It sucks, but that's business. So yes, they do charge you more because it's a BMW but it isnt without good reason.

Yes I understand what you are saying but this is a exhaust system not a clutch etc.

Exxxctly. Especially when I told and showed them how simple the job was compared to other cars perhaps, let alone a M3.

But done now. Just some places are stupid and don't need business I guess.

No time, no jack, no space, no tools.

Found a garage eventually who did it for £40. Done.

But a few garages wouldn't even want to touch the car.

And they claim to be exhaust specialists…. unbelievable.

Yeh going e90, 99.9% sure anyways.

I sold the e92 awhile ago and bought a gen2 gt3 but I need a bigger car so it had to go, plus a new property purchase hopefully.
