Pissed need help

Hey guys as I was driving on the interstate today some dumb fucking redneck lost a shitload of sod right in front of me well I missed alot of it but the 2 pieces that went under the car shredded the black plastic stuff under the engine. Any idea how much that thing costs to replace. I am so pissed right now I am lucky it doesn't seem like anything mechanical was hurt and I had my 4 yr old in the car with me and the douche in the truck hit his brakes and when he saw me pulling over he just kept going. I hate FL rednecks. Sorry if I sound illeterate in my post I am just so mad right now.

Just 2 days ago on a road my family and I drive daily, a mom and her two daughters drowned. Yes, they drowned. In a strong thunderstorm the rainwater exceeded the drainage. Without warning 6-9 feet of water infiltrated the road, trapping the mom and daughters in their car and causing their horrific deaths.

Hours before my family and I passed this very stretch of road. Could easily have been us.

I look at potholes and debris with much less emotional reaction now.

An older woman was killed by that flood on Washington Blvd too. I drove that daily for two months during the summer. That storm was insane.

Very unfortunate loss of human life - and sorry to hear about your accident. We all wonder why things happen as they do - but they do (?). To put a lighter note on things,
.

The black plastic composite comes in three sections, passenger's and driver's side corner pieces and central a section. I had to replace one corner and the central section ($248.50), free installation by a friend.

Is this the black felt like material underneath the front left and right that is visible when viewing from the front?

That's no good, hope nothing is seriously damaged. I ran over what looked like a fence post with a chunk of concrete on the end with my DD last week and busted the oil pan. 1100 to repair the car plus 185 to tow. All things considered - plastic is an easy fix!

Do you mean that black plastic tray that covers the oil pan area, or those felt box things? The felt boxes are fairly cheap and easy to replace.

Why not just go through insurance? Isn't that why we have it?

This thread should help you out. It sounds like it could have been a lot worse so consider yourself lucky.

You're rates don't go up with comprehensive damage coverage. Which is what this falls under.

Wrong - Comprehensive would only cover this if you can prove that it was caused by hitting an animal. If you just hit a random object in the road or a curb they will classify it as collision and it could cause your rate to increase.

Also even if you have a windshield stone chip repaired by say Safelite, it's not supposed to raise your rate, but it does remain on record.

Only by an animal?

Nope. Subject to what state and insurance company.

Comprehensive Auto Insurance includes almost everything that might go wrong with your vehicle except collision. This is the reason why Comprehensive plans are sometimes called "Other than Collision" insurance coverage. Comprehensive Insurance covers all types of damage and loss including:

— Fire
— Theft
— Vandalism or malicious damage
— Riot
— Flood
— Earthquake or Explosion
— Hail
— Windstorm
— Falling or Flying Objects
— Damage Due to Contact with a Bird or Animal
— Windshield Damage

My wife is a insurance agent.

In any case the part in question is cheap and fairly easy to install yourself. And the good thing for the op is that part did it's job.

I said animal because I doubt that it was caused by anything else on that list.

Either way it it's a mute point. I just spoke to my insurance company this afternoon regarding a busted oil pan due to crap in the road so I'll be paying out of pocket because in my case it would cause an increase.

Either way, if the rates don't go up and you have a lot of claims, now you'll be under the spotlight.

Seems like you got it under control now. Simple R&R item.

Good luck with Irene!
