i'm waiting on my M3 coupe (its somewhere crossing the atlantic) and would like to hear from people who have the eisenmann race exhaust.
have any of you started to get tired of the sound.

i plan on using my m3 as a daily driver and dont want any issues with it being to loud inside the cabin.

This will depend a good degree on your personal tolerance. I don't have experience with the Race Perfomance model, but I do have the Sport Performance and, for me, it is absolutely perfect in terms of tone and volume for a daily driver. And, given the specs, the Race is quite a bit louder, so I have to conclude it would be too obnoxious for me to live with daily.

+ 1 Mantis. I went with the Eisenmann sport in fear of the race being to loud. I think if your worried about it or even have to second guess yourself, then go with the quieter one.

I didn't know you'd gotten a chance to hear the Race in person yet.

Lots of people are thrown off by the name "Race", but in my opinion the sound is still very acceptable. Like a few have said, however, if you have to ask yourself if the race is too loud, perhaps it's best to stick with the sport.

Tim,

The OEM exhaust specs out like this:

moving vehicle = apr. 75 db
stationary vehicle = 92 db at 6.225 1/min
value of backpressure = 0,47 bar at 2. gear and 0,51 bar at 3. gear
weight of the muffler = apr. 21 kg

The Sport system is not numerically louder, just much deeper and better sounding than the OEM system. It's perfect for those who want a better sound, without extra sound volume.

Obviously, it's not common for manufacturers to take the time to measure decibel and backpressure values, but this should give you some perspective with Eisenmann systems VS stock.

I can vouch for the fact that regardless of what the numbers say, the Eisenmann Sport produces a much more satisfying sound than stock, that also seems somewhat louder.

i've also heard that if you have the DCT, the Race creates some drone at low RPM cruises and/or idle. as a result, they suggest going with the Sport version.

Why would the transmission type make a difference in the exhaust sound?

The way the guy at WheelSTO explained it was that there is a tendency for RPMs to be lower on DCT cars rather than 6MTs. I realize that's a sweeping generalization on his part, but I can see his point. When I have owned MTs in the past, I tend to "race" the engine more than I do on automatics/SMGs/DCT. He also said that he had a couple of customers that had DCTs that reported the same type of drone at lower RPMs.

The only reason I give his statements and observations any credibility is because he makes a living off selling Eisenmann exhaust systems and as a result has had countless conversations with customers owning both types of transmissions (DCT & 6MT) and both types of exhausts (Race & Sport). Beyond that, it's subjective at best.

Me too. I went with the Sport exhaust and so far it is awesome. No too loud...definately not as soft as the OEM one. Just right!

This is incorrect. DCT cars have numerically larger gear ratios in most gears other than 1st. This means it is geared lower and hence for a given gear and speed will be at a higher rpm than the 6MT car (and thus producing more hp).

But doesn't it have a significantly longer final drive?

That is what I was thinking....get the sport.....if I want a bit more noise, go for the SS X-pipe!

If you do it, let us know how it works out for you!

Keep in mind that the SS X-pipe is not a direct fit and takes a bit of modifiction to fit. I recommend just having a muffler shop remove the rear resonators.
