Chassis insurance question
Hi guys, been involved in a smash which has resulted in some damage to the front rails of the car. Insurance has decided that it will be cheaper to try and repair it rather than wrote it off. The question is, are the front rails a part of the chassis or are they a replaceable subframe?
Thanks Henry |

What a bummer. Aren't the front rails are the front portion of the chassis?
As far as I know, these cars have different chassis sections that are spot welded together, so damaged portions can replaced. What they do is strap it to chains and straighten the entire chassis, then replace the front rails. I think you should push for replacements. If the damage is decent, it doesn't matter how good they are, the car will never sit the same again. Try getting another quote, and I think you have the right to your choice of repairer. Perhaps consider a lawyer if things get difficult. Good luck |
