Valentine 1 simply the best

Incase anyone is in the market for a radar detector, look no further then the V1 imo.
This is my third long trip from my home in miami, fl. to high pt, nc.
and she performed amazingly again.
When she chirped i slowed and 9 times out of 10 there was a trooper up ahead in the center median or hiding out on the side.

Love the V1 I had three. Three Stolen from me that is
So I decided to try the 9500ci. It's just as good but throws more falses and I miss teh arrows
The one time I didn't listen because I thought it was wrong I got clocked at 110

I'm getting a V1 again

I have noticed they all throw false alarms, especially when one passes by a mall type of buildings on the turnpike because of the automatic doors etc.

But other then that i follow her lead when she chirps, its amazing at times she starts chirping at a slow pace and the cop is soo far ahead of me and finally he appears heading the opposite direction, and your like wow such a great long distance pick up.

I'd rather my V1 throw falses and not need them than not throw an alarm and I need it.

V1 FTMFW!!!!

Anytime Ive gone on a drive without one, Ive either gotten a ticket or come very close. Mines 7 years old and its still amazing.

When Im in the car with a passenger and Im like, "watch this", there will be a cop ahead about a mile hiding somewhere. They are like "no way" and then what do you know. Amazment every time!

I love my V1, I was in front of a long hill when the laser alarm went off, I slow down and when I get over the hill there is a motorcycle cop sitting on the side of the road with a laser gun.

They're amazing indeed. I only use mine on trips, so it's basically close to new, but lacks the POP that most speed cameras use. After seeing one identical to mine (but in worse condition) sold for $300 on Ebay, will list it and buy a new one. Tried the 'upgrade' deal on Valentine's website, but no way I'd pay $250 to upgrade; even the website says no need to upgrade, except if you want POP. Half that ($425 shipped - $300) sounds more reasonable. The arrows is what prevents me from getting anything else, even if cheaper. Good day folks.

You may want to hold off on updating. A lot of people aren't too crazy about the POP modes, and certain 'vintage' software versions are more desirable in the Radar Detector crowd. You may be able to sell yours for more than you think.

More info should be available on radardetector.net

the POP is annoying as shit! It makes soooooooo many false alarms! My brother has one with out pop and we put them in the same car and tested it out, Pop goes off quicker, but it gives 3-4 more false alarms! It's annoying driving through the city and all you hear is beep-beep then the tone then numbers go up hahah!

But i do love my V! saved me a few times already:-)

V1 doesn't do remote mount do they? The Escort has the 9500 remote mount which is nice, fits right in ashtray (of course the laser jammers doen't work as well as LI brand, but I'm in Colorado, jammers are illegal).

I'm still split, which to purchase. Would like to do permanent/remote mount.

...the V1 is cool; however, the quintessential solution for the next great leap forward in total protection is the 9500xi.

What the hell is this POP I keep seeing, but no one explains. Is it just photo radar?

I've never installed mine in the almost 2 years I've had this car. Most use Lidar around here, and you need a jammer for defense. I have learned to drive smarter, and so far so good. I'll still do 100 on the freeway occasionally, but only in short burst and when it is prudent.

Valentine seems stuck in complacency about upgrades to this unit. Heck, it's had the same case for like 10 years. It is a good radar detector, but to be in the game today you need GPS and lidar jamming.

Well, they did make the case a little smaller a few years ago; but they do seem very happy with their 1990's tech.

I have the Passport 8500i, and sometimes I do wish I would've gone with the V1. Yet that's only because so many people keep saying it's simply the best.

The truth: My 8500i is still amazing, and I'm very pleased with it. I'm gonna keep it for a long while.

I hear you greg the unit looks old and antiquated, i'm pretty sure you can update it for software not looks.

But for what i paid for it 3 years ago it paid for itself on the first trip to disney world which is 4 hrs from my house.

Its the same old story for me time and time again i catch troopers hiding or comming opposite direction with their radars on.

To have the gps mode on the V1 would just further set itself apart i agree, but i feel i have an amazing radar detector imo.

Because of all the times its saved me
